BELTON CONSTRUCTION SERVICES, WORKING AT THE HEART OF THE BELFAST CAMPUS PROJECT FOR SEVEN YEARS… CONSTRUCTION SERVICES
B elton Construction Services played an integral part on the Ulster University Belfast Campus project delivering a multitude of services for main contractor Sacyr. The scope of works included groundworks, joinery, paving, brick special production, masonry support installation and Sparkle cleaning along with additional labour resources when required. For owner, Conor Belton, the project spanned a seven-year time frame. “I started on the project as a Site Manager for the original main contractor Lagan Construction and following being made redundant, I started up on my own, providing labour, plant hire and groundworks for the new contractor, Sacyr. “For this final phase we installed the precast concrete paving for the public realm works and some drainage works. Joinery work included installing the aluminium ceilings in
the external areas which included insulation and waterproof membrane. “We also installed all of the masonry support on the facades, and we manufactured all of the 50,000 cut and bonded brick specials. Anywhere there was a bespoke angle corner, we made the bricks for it at our yard. This was a huge saving to the project.” As well as supplying up to 50 personnel on site, Belton Construction provided a wood chipping machine to process waste timber into animal bedding. “This helped the site gain an Innovation point in the Considerate Constructors Scheme,” said Conor. “There is a huge amount of pride in the local supply chain that we were all able to do our part in getting it over the line. I was on site when the first bucket was put in the ground, so it’s great to be involved right to the end.”
