U lster University selected eir evo, in partnership with HPE Aruba, to work with its team to design and deploy a new state-of-the-art network for the Belfast Campus that would meet the growing demands of its student and staff population. eir evo was also selected as the main contractor’s official partner for the supply and installation of the University’s HPE Aruba wireless network. The core network is built on a modern, software-defined network operating system that offers enhanced capability, redundancy and resilience through automation of network tasks, and advanced monitoring and troubleshooting capabilities. The University’s bandwidth needs are also future-proofed with 100Gb connectivity and the ability to carry out reliable upgrades without traffic loss at any time. For increased security, the
solution offers user segmentation and enhanced features enable the unification of a wired and wireless security policy. To ensure optimum WiFi coverage and capacity, eir evo carried out initial site surveys across the vast 75,000m2 area of the new campus to determine the quantity and location of the access points (APs) needed. The wireless network now delivers multi-gigabit speed connectivity to user devices via 1,200 of the latest Aruba WiFi 6 APs, supported by an appropriately-sized wired Local Area Network infrastructure. This is designed to meet today’s demands from over 15,000 staff and students but also for the next 7–10 years. The full integration of the wireless and wired networks as supplied by eir evo at the University has now created an Aruba Mobility First Network, one single autonomous network, optimised
to deliver an open and secure user experience. Students and Staff at the University are now able to have exactly the same experience accessing the network whether they are connecting via the fixed or wireless network. “…multi-gigabit speed connectivity to user devices via 1,200 of the latest Aruba WiFi 6 APs.”
