ROGER GILLESPIE FCIOB, CHAIR OF THE CIOB BELFAST HUB COMMITTEE SHARES RECENT NEWS, AND DATES FOR YOUR DIARY… News and updates from CIOB NI

I was delighted that so many Construction Managers from NI-based contractors received recognition as finalists at the recent prestigious CIOB Awards event in London on September 28. Staff from McLaughlin & Harvey, Henry Brothers, McAleer & Rushe, Farrans Construction, as well as Tracey Brothers were all finalists in various categories. This shows the calibre of construction professionals from these shores. CHIEF EXECUTIVE VISIT Caroline Gumble, Chief Executive of the CIOB is visiting Dublin and Belfast in November. On November 9, she will be in Dublin where the CIOB is hosting a meeting of the Education Forum. On November 10, she will be attending a CIOB event at Nutt’s Corner which will be run in partnership with the Equality Commission of Northern Ireland (ECNI) and the Construction Industry Training Board Northern Ireland (CITB NI) to explore the issue of Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI). On November 11, she will be in Belfast to attend a CIOB Member Engagement Meeting along

with the CIOB President. The next day, November 12, she will conclude her visit by speaking at the CIOB Graduation ceremony in Belfast. UPCOMING GRADUATION The upcoming CIOB Graduation ceremony in Belfast, sponsored by recruitment specialist Hays, is set to be a memorable occasion. This year it will be hosted on November 12. CIOB Graduations are an opportunity for anyone who attained Chartered or Fellow Chartered membership to receive their certificate and be recognised for their achievement. Chartered Membership is comparable to a Bachelor’s Degree and is recognised internationally. Likewise, Fellowship is independently benchmarked and is comparable to a Master’s Degree. Attendees booked to date are from companies including CHC Group, Graham Construction, Collen Construction, QMAC Construction, MAC Group, Brian McCarthy Construction, Edgewater Contracts, Robin Hill Construction, RMT Architects, McAleer & Rushe, and

BDL Group. Places are still available. All enquiries are welcome.

JOIN TOMORROW’S LEADERS The recently launched CIOB Tomorrow’s Leaders plays an active role in building the pipeline of quality construction talent. Being part of the Tomorrow’s Leaders community provides: • Access to a professional network of construction industry specialists. • Personal, technical and managerial learning and development opportunities. • A platform to voice your views on the future of the built environment. I would like to encourage any graduates and young people to get involved. This is a great forum to develop competencies, share knowledge and start on a pathway to become professionally qualified.
