ELITE DOORS EVENT HIGHLIGHTS LIFE-SAVING PERFORMANCE OF FULLY COMPLIANT FIRE DOORS… Taking the lead in fire door safety
T he importance of correct fire a well-supported fire door safety event held recently at Elite Doors’ new Mallusk factory. The heavily subscribed event went ahead despite the cancellation of the national Fire Safety Door Week (for which it was organised) due to the death of HM Queen Elizabeth II. Recently awarded a BM Trade Q Mark certification following a rigorous 18-month process, Elite Doors is a leading manufacturer of complete timber doorset solutions. The fire door safety event attracted door specification, inspection and maintenance was emphasised at
attendees from the worlds of construction, architecture and estate management who heard from Elite Doors’ founder – now consultant – Errol Little, who described the company’s recent BM Trade Q Mark certification process. General Manager, Richard Holmes, explained the capabilities of Elite’s fire timber doors, while BM Trada Certified Fire Door Inspector and Installer, Johnny Kelly from parent company KCC Group, spoke to attendees about the importance of regular fire door inspection and maintenance. A video presentation graphically illustrated the fire performance differences between
compliant and non-compliant doors. A specially built BM Trada Q Mark compliant doorset with peel-away sections was used to demonstrate hidden problem areas, notably behind the architrave and frame itself. Richard Holmes explained, “This feature was a major talking point as it highlighted where failures can occur. For example, if the incorrect spacing and products are used during a non-compliant door’s construction. “Our fully compliant fire doorsets have to pass eight quality control checks before they leave the factory which, in addition to our BM Trada Q Mark
