certification, gives great reassurance to the marketplace that our fire doors will safeguard the integrity of a building allowing occupants time to exit safely.” Attendees were urged to inspect their fire doors every six months. “Doors need to be checked by a competent person to ensure that heat activated sealants are undamaged, that there’s no structural damage to the door leaves, the gaps around it are the correct size so the intumescent can get to work and that timing devices, etc, are all secure and operating properly,” explained Richard. FACTORY TOUR Following the talks and demonstrations, visitors were taken on a tour of the manufacturing facility, getting to witness first-hand how Elite doors are made. “We moved to our new, much larger factory last year, which enabled us to expand our
machinery facilities,” said Richard. “We brought in an additional CNC, door press and sanding facilities and constructed a purpose-built spray shop. By moving from the old site to the new factory, we doubled our capacity per shift. “We can now encapsulate doors – typically for the health sector – entirely in-house. It means we don’t have to outsource and has definitely led to improvements in quality and has reduced lead times. This takes some costs out of the process, making products better value for clients.” The takeover in 2019 by KCC Group created an end-to-end solutions provider for timber doorsets, steel doorsets, automatics and hardware. It opened up a much larger marketplace for Elite Doors. “KCC’s reach is phenomenal. We now have the KCC team working with us in Northern Ireland and in RoI, plus we are
extending our services into specification,” said Richard. “We are the leading manufacturer of doorsets in Northern Ireland, and we want to maintain that position, but we now have the resources to expand more into the RoI market and also across GB. Our key sectors begin with services – we have a four-week turnaround for most replacement doors. After that, grade A office accommodation, healthcare, education, hotels represent the lion’s share of our work. “The KCC team takes care of the specification stage, and our team of estimators onsite in Mallusk supply technical product knowledge, often dealing with queries on an hourly basis. For our customers, this offers peace of mind. They know they can speak to an expert at the end of the phone, who knows what they’re talking about.”
