The Relationship Between Grief and Resilience Among College Students Clarissa Slaton*, Madisyn Cuevas*, Elizabeth Garza* Project Mentor(s): Heath Marrs, EdD Research suggests that grief negatively impacts multiple aspects of college students' lives, including academic outcomes, social functioning, and overall well-being. Studies have shown that students experiencing grief can experience lower attendance, decrease in academic achievement, and reduced social engagement. This review of previous research aims to identify factors that may reduce the negative impacts of grief, with a focus on resilience. The Brief Resilience Scale (BRS) is a measure used to identify an individual’s ability to recover from stressful experiences. Findings indicate that students with higher BRS scores report lower levels of grief. Is ABA Viewed as Abusive When Used on Typically Developing Children? CM Wright * Project Mentor(s): Ralf Greenwald, PhD This proposed study will examine perceptions of interventions used on autistic children as part of applied behavior analysis. Previous research has raised questions about the effectiveness of such interventions and identified a correlation between exposure to applied behavior analysis and post- traumatic stress syndrome. In addition, some studies have shown a tendency to dehumanize autistic adults and children. The proposed study hypothesizes that when presented with contemporary examples of applied behavior analysis, participants will rate the interventions as more appropriate and necessary, and less abusive, if the child is described as autistic, compared to typically developing or unspecified neurotype. Conversely, the study hypothesizes participants will rate the interventions as less appropriate and necessary, and more abusive, if the child is described as typically developing, compared to autistic or unspecified neurotype.
