your peak demand, then you might save thousands. Changing tariffs, contracting at the right time (not just when your retailer sends you a quote) can mean a big difference. A broker or energy consultant can help you navigate the complexities. Consider avoiding commission-based services. Consultants who charge an hourly fee for service can give you the best guidance, especially if you have a site that uses more than 150,000kWh/year ($30,000/year). TEELS – Tasmanian energy efficient loan scheme For a more efficient refrigeration system, heating upgrade, solar or batteries for your business you can apply for a $40,000 5-year interest free loan. Please have the efficiency/savings verified by someone independent - an hour of a consultant’s time might save you wasting $40,000. Energy Efficiency Audits The state government will be funding 50% of the cost of energy audits to a small number of businesses – keep an eye out if you are interested. Your industry associations will be given details in April 2018. Solar Power A rule of thumb in Tasmania is that levelized cost of rooftop solar energy (LCOE) is about 16.5c/kWh inc GST. If you are paying 25c/kWh for power, then solar makes sense but if you are paying 15c/kWh or end up selling it back to Aurora at 8c/kWh then it doesn’t.
