Keynote Winning When You’re Underestimated – How a Source of Frustration Can Be the Fuel to Succeed with Erika Casupanan , Keynote Speaker & Host, TV Personality, Storyteller There is no frustration quite like arriving prepared, qualified, and then…being underestimated. An already complicated career and life journey is even harder when you’re overlooked. For folks who are part of marginalized communities, the obstacles can feel insurmountable. Erika Casupanan is a media personality, host, storyteller, and the first Canadian to win the hit show Survivor. She is a Filipino Immigrant from an English as a second language household, who grew up to consult tech executives on communications and become a historic reality TV champ. Throughout her life, Erika has overcome preconceived judgments on her skills, appearance, and bubbly personality, to reach new heights. Through personal storytelling, Erika will share the lessons she learned as one of the only Filipino kids in her school, spending a decade in a career that relegated her to a supporting role, being an underdog who won one of the world’s biggest TV shows, and how the power of community helped her survive unfair Internet backlash. Plus, she will share her advice on how being underestimated unlocks the ultimate advantages.
