October is Cybersecurity Awareness Month: #BeCyberSmart
If you see something, say something. Report suspicious activity in-app, and join our campaign to help others remember to always #BeCyberSmart! Be skeptical of unexpected or urgent requests. Social engineering tactics are designed to trick you into sharing personal info. Verify URL destinations, reject offers that seem too good to be true, and be wary of urgent or emotionally manipulative requests. Use strong passwords and change them regularly . Don't reuse passwords across apps or accounts. Check if any info tied to your accounts has been exposed, and change passwords if compromised. Enable 2-step verification ( 2SV ) & turn on passkeys to verify it's you when logging in from an unrecognized device. Stay up to date. Download the latest operating system and apps on all devices. Review user settings to verify your devices, and keep contact info current.
TikTok’s approach to global security
Safeguarding our community of over 1 billion people TikTok's Global Security Organization is the foundation of our efforts to keep TikTok safe, secure, and operating at scale. Our primary responsibilities span cybersecurity, data protection, incident response, and certifying compliance with global regulations wherever TikTok operates. Protecting user data & authenticity Our top priority is ensuring user data remains inaccessible to foreign governments, hackers, or anyone who shouldn’t see it. It’s one of the ways we keep our community safe from harm, and help preserve an authentic experience. To do this, we're continually designing, testing, and improving new strategies and programs to protect our community. We partner with industry experts to understand local concerns and meet our regulatory commitments everywhere we operate. This localized approach impacts how we store and protect user data. For example, we follow specific regional requirements to store and protect TikTok user data in the U.S. and Europe. Instilling a security culture at TikTok Our security team spans innovative hubs like Washington DC, Bay Area, Dublin, New York City, London, and Singapore. We're always inspired by the creativity and joy of our global TikTok community, and love getting creative to foster an internal culture of cybersecurity. Leaning in locally and adhering to global standards
