CORNERSTONE CELEBRATES 13 YEARS! MANY THANKS
VIP Referral Patient of the Month!
With Thanksgiving right around the corner, I’m sure many of our readers are getting ready for the big feast. For me, that means mentally and physically preparing for an absolute smorgasbord, since our family does the holiday dinner twice in a row. For years now, our tradition has been to have dinner with my mom at 1, then head over to eat with my in-laws at 6. We go all-out with turkey and all the fixings at both meals, so needless to say, I’ll be skipping breakfast. The two turkeys are worth it though. At the end of the day, Thanksgiving is about spending time with our loved ones and being grateful for what we have. If that means having to go on an extra-long jog in order to work off the stuffing and mashed potatoes the next day, I’m all for it. As both a father and a business owner, I always have a lot to be thankful for when Thanksgiving rolls around. As I often discuss in these articles, my kids are excelling at their chosen sports, and my wife and I enjoy sharing in their excitement as they look forward to life’s next big adventures. Traveling to their tournaments and training camps around the country every year is stressful, but as I look at the fine young athletes they’ve become, I know it’s more than worth it. And I can’t say this enough: Supporting my kids just would not be possible without you. We have some of the most loyal, friendly patients in the industry. I’m so proud that Cornerstone PT has such a strong sense of community. Sometimes the dedication and sense of familiarity we have with one another takes me by surprise. Just the other day, a former patient called me after being referred to another practitioner by their doctor. They’d gone to the other clinic and were unhappy with the care they’d received. What floored me wasn’t that they were calling me to schedule an appointment; they were calling because they felt they had to apologize for seeing
another therapist! Let me be clear: I don’t mind! It’s perfectly normal for patients to listen to their doctor’s recommendations, and I’ll never take it personally.

“To celebrate this milestone, I’ll personally be conducting a free screening on Friday, Nov. 16, for any current or former patients who want to drop by.”
The best compliment we can receive is to have one of our patients refer a friend or family member to our practice. If you refer someone and we are able to take them as a patient, both you and the person who was referred
The fact that someone took time out of their day to make a call like that was so touching. You really don’t see that very often in this industry, and it underscores how lucky we are to have such a great community. Our focus has always been to provide exceptional care that puts patients first. Moments like this phone call let me know we’re sticking to that vision. The approach has certainly served us well. On Nov. 15, we’ll be celebrating our 13th year in business. It’s been an incredible journey to get to this point, and none of it would be possible without our amazing team. Our whole staff works hard to make Cornerstone an experience our clients love. This place has become better than I would have ever imagined 13 years ago. To my team, thank you for your hard work. To celebrate this milestone, I want to give back to the patients who have made these last 13 years incredible. That’s why I’ll personally be conducting a free screening on Friday, Nov. 16, for any current or former patients who want to drop by. Call 732.499.4540 to make your appointment! It’s the least we can do to say thank you for so many great years of support.
Thank You! will be entered to win a $25 gift card! It’s just our way of saying
Happy Thanksgiving,
–David DeLaFuente

“I can’t say enough about Dave and his staff. This is my fourth experience at Cornerstone for different issues. Each time has been successful and rewarding. When you get rid of pain, you feel like a different person. I also strongly recommend laser treatments with your physical therapy. Thank you, Cornerstone, again!” –Celeste R.
The Most Underrated Thanksgiving Foods
4 DISHES YOUR TABLE NEEDS
When you think of Thanksgiving food, the first dishes that pop into your mind are probably turkey, mashed potatoes, and green bean casserole. They’re a part of nearly every Thanksgiving meal. And while these delicious foods are something you don’t want to skip, there are dishes your table is sorely missing — dishes that don’t get the respect they truly deserve. This Thanksgiving, why not take a look at a few other options? Soup This is one dish that rarely hits the Thanksgiving table. But try a butternut squash or broccoli cheddar soup and you’ll be surprised just how “at home” it feels among the rest of your spread. It’s perfect to serve ahead of the main course, as the final touches are put on the turkey, or when the green bean casserole needs a few more minutes in the oven. Brussels Sprouts These tiny greens often get overlooked during Thanksgiving, but with the right accompaniment, they can make for an extremely tasty and nutritious dish. For example, try roasting halved Brussels sprouts with dried cranberries and bacon, drizzled with a raspberry balsamic vinaigrette. Sausage Put a creative spin on your traditional Thanksgiving dishes and try using sausage in the stuffing. An Italian sausage, for instance, adds a kick of flavor to any stuffing, homemade or from the box. You can also experiment with other kinds of sausage to find the flavors that best complement your stuffing. Use a sweet sausage when you need something to pair with a stuffing that incorporates apples. Cranberry Sauce This Thanksgiving staple rarely gets the attention it deserves. While it’s easy to buy a can of cranberry sauce, you do your guests a culinary disservice by going this route. Instead, make your own cranberry sauce. There are many recipes online, and all you need are some fresh or frozen cranberries, orange juice, and sugar to make the best cranberry sauce of your life.
“I injured my leg walking with my wife one day and several days later was in a lot of pain. I could not walk, and I was limping badly. My wife recommended Dave at Cornerstone Physical Therapy. Dave, with his awesome staff, had my leg mobile and feeling better in several weeks. Wow!” –Nathaniel C.

YOUR PASS TO SEE A PHYSICAL THERAPIST
Nationwide Direct Access
The word “access” usually implies exclusivity. It conjures up images of backstage passes to rock concerts or high-level security clearances to the back rooms of government buildings. Fortunately, there’s nothing exclusive about seeing a physical therapist. “Direct access” means every patient has access to physical therapy services. Rather than having to see a doctor or get a prescription for physical therapy, patients can now just walk through the doors of a therapy clinic to get examined. This kind of freedom hasn’t always existed though. In fact, not long ago, physicians usually had to evaluate patients before they could send them to physical therapy regardless of the kind of pain a patient experienced — even when it clearly stemmed from a car accident, a twisted ankle on the football field, or an old injury. This type of market was a dream for both private practice and hospital-based physical therapists, but it created a lot of wasted time and money for everyone else.
Fortunately, some form of direct access now exists in every state, and it has made a world of difference for patients and therapists alike. According to the American Physical Therapy Association, direct access empowers physical therapists to take control of their own businesses rather than being forced to rely on referrals. Additionally, it helps forge long-lasting bonds between therapists and patients because patients don’t have to be shuffled around from clinic to clinic, and the therapists are able to understand, diagnose, and treat patients’ pain and injuries as soon as possible. Although every state maintains some form of direct access, many Americans are still unaware of it and think they have to jump through hoops in order to get the physical therapy they want and need. Here in New Jersey, we have direct access, so you can come to Cornerstone anytime without a prescription. If you have any questions about scheduling an initial examination following an injury, don’t hesitate to give our office a call!
SPICY, CREAMY SWEET POTATOES
Sweet potatoes are a Thanksgiving staple, but they’re often the blandest thing on the table. Luckily that’s not the case with this recipe, which features Thai spices and coconut milk.
INGREDIENTS
• • •
5 pounds sweet potatoes 1 cup canned coconut milk
• • •
1/2 cup dark brown sugar 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
1 tablespoon Thai red curry paste
1 tablespoon kosher salt
DIRECTIONS
1. Heat oven to 375 F. On a large sheet pan, bake potatoes until very soft, approximately 75 minutes. 2. Let potatoes cool until they are safe to handle, then peel and mash. 3. In a small saucepan over low heat, combine coconut milk and curry paste. Once mixed, add the mixture, salt, half the sugar, and half the butter to potatoes. 4. 30 minutes before serving, heat oven to 425 F. Spread potatoes in a baking dish, cover with foil, and bake for 20 minutes. 5. Uncover potatoes and dot with remaining butter and sugar. Broil until brown, crusty, and delicious. Serve hot.

3 Movie Locations to Captivate Your Eyes
3 Famous Movie Locations You Need to Visit
WHY WATCH THE FILM WHEN YOU CAN SEE IT WITH YOUR OWN EYES?
Christ Church Cathedral Harry Potter captured the imagination of the world. There are multiple sites across the United Kingdom where you can get lost in the adventure that shaped a generation, but there is one spot at the top of almost every fan’s list. Hogwarts is a magic castle in J.K. Rowling’s books, but in real life, its film location is a functioning cathedral in Oxford. Take one step onto the grounds of Christ Church Cathedral, and you might begin to wonder when the next Quidditch match will begin. Tikal National Park When George Lucas witnessed a poster of this famous archeological site, he didn’t see an ancient culture — he saw Yavin IV, the perfect location for the Massassi Outpost, a rebel haven found in the first film of Star Wars. Though the movie paints a futuristic look at the region, walk through Tikal National Park, and you’ll experience it as a trip through history.
Movies captivate audiences partially because of their ability to transport you to a different place. The heart yearns to be taken places, and cinema facilitates that journey. But what if you could immerse yourself in those fantastical worlds by visiting the destinations that you’ve seen on the big screen? Here are three places that are worth the trip. Hobbiton The only aspect of “The Lord of the Rings” that is more compelling than the fantastical journey of Frodo is the alluring, untamed countryside and quaint towns that make up Middle Earth. The Green Dragon Inn, Bilbo’s house, and the rolling hills of New Zealand make for a backdrop that will transport you straight into the life of Middle Earth’s smallest people — only these houses aren’t small at all. And you don’t need large, hairy feet to enjoy them.
