How to Use This Guide
Discipleship is at the core of our ministry here at the Bible Institute. The D-Group setting encourages us to engage with God’s Word and our fellow brothers and sisters in a unique way. As the Holy Spirit works in our hearts, our desire grows to help others experience the same thing. This D-Group Leader Guide is a resource to help you effectively and efficiently set the table for your D-Group. It will help guide you in all aspects of the weekly rhythms and be a reference for you as you go throughout the school year. This guide gives you content for the first 2 weeks, which will establish the rhythm of your D-Group. Week 1 – Your First Group Meeting During the first meeting, the goal is to set the expectations for the group and get to know one another. Included is a D-Group Covenant that each member will commit to and sign. Week 2 – Establishing a Normal Weekly Rhythm In the second week, you will walk through the weekly rhythm with your group, explaining why we do this and how it help us grow. Leader Prep: Before you begin leading your group, there are a few resources we ask you to listen to/read.

Week 1
Welcome to the first week of your D-Group! Because this is an introductory meeting, it will look a little different than other weeks. Today’s focus will be on getting to know one another, explaining expectations, and committing to this discipleship process together. Get To Know One Another First, share your testimony with your group. This will help them get to know you and begin to build the relationship. Then, take some time for each group member to share a 2–3-minute version of their testimony. Below are some questions you can ask to further get to know them.
• What is one of your favorite hobbies?
• Would you rather vacation at the beach or in the mountains?
• What plans do you have for a future job?
• Who has had the most spiritual impact on your life thus far?
Note: This meeting can be split into two if desired. The first meeting can be ocused on getting to know one another, and the second meeting can be focused on the expectations and commitment.

D-Group Expectations
It is important for you as the staff member to set and explain the expectations for the group. For effective discipleship to happen, everyone in the group needs to be bought in and committed. This is divided into three sections: our part, God’s part, and what will happen.
What will we do? 1 Timothy 4:7-8
“Have nothing to do with irreverent, silly myths. Rather train yourself for godliness; for while bodily training is of some value, godliness is of value in every way, as it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come.” Over the course of this year, D-Groups will focus weekly disciplines. Weekly meetings will consist of reviewing these disciplines and growing together through them.
Weekly Disciplines • Discussion on a Bible passage/topic • Accountability • Prayer
To commit to this process, each member of the group will sign the D-Group Covenant. There is one in this guide, but you can find extra copies for your group in the Page Center.
What will God do? 2 Timothy 3:16-17
“All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.”
6
Hebrews 4:12 “For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.”
The Holy Spirit uses the word of God to change our lives. Through the weekly disciplines above, the Holy Spirit changes us through his Word, not through our own effort and striving. The weekly disciplines merely give us a place for God to work in our life.
What will happen? MARCS of a Disciple*
Missional A disciple regularly is praying for and investing in relationships with those who don’t have an active relationship with Jesus. Accountable A disciple is open and honest about significant struggles with other believers. Reproducible A disciple looks for opportunities to invest in other believers to help them grow in their faith. Communal A disciple regularly engages in biblical fellowship with other believers. Scriptural A disciple experiences intimacy with Christ through regularly spending time reading, meditating, and obeying God’s Word.

D-Group Covenant*
During the duration of this group, I will do my best to...
• Give myself fully to the Lord during this time as I anticipate a season of accelerated spiritual transformation. • Commit to this group and consider how I may best spur others on in their relationship with Jesus. • Meet weekly with my D-Group. When unable, I will stay involved through sharing applied Bible truths and prayer requests. • Commit to the weekly disciplines of Bible Reading, Accountability, and Prayer. • Contribute to a group atmosphere of confidentiality, honesty, and transparency. • Pray every week for other members of my D-Group and those in my life who don’t know Jesus. • Pray for future discipleship opportunities as the Lord directs me to what’s next.

Week 2
Welcome to the second week of your D-Group! Because this is still early in the school year, it will look a little different than other weeks. Today’s focus will be talking through each aspect of the D-Group and establishing the group’s plan. Next week and the following, your group should operate in this rhythm. Normal D-Group Rhythm
Fellowship (10 minutes) • Highs & Lows of the week • Catch up from previous week
Discussion of Bible Passage/Topic (25-35 minutes) • Which of your QT Entries stood out to you the most this week and what are you doing about it?
Accountability (10-25 minutes) • Have you prayed for your ONE this week? • Accountability Questions (see on page 12) Prayer (10 mins) • Specific & Personal requests from everyone • Each member prays for other members
9
Accountability Questions*
Below you will find a list of questions we suggest you ask for accountability among your group. You are not limited to these, but they should jump start some discussion. The goal is not to beat one another up when we give into sinful behavior. It is to lovingly come alongside one another and spur one another on to love and good works (Hebrews 10:24).
• Have you honored God with your thoughts, words, and actions this week?
• Have you given in to any addictive behavior this past week? (alcohol or drugs, video games, sexual impurity, TV, etc.)
• Have you told any lies or half-truths this week?
• Have you damaged another person by your words, either behind his or her back or face-to-face? • Were your words THINK (True, Helpful, Inspiring, Necessary, Kind)?
• Have you participated in anything unethical this week?
• Have you been completely honest with your answers today?

Prayer We believe in the power of prayer, so each week we will pray with one another and for one another. Have each person share a specific and person request for the entire group to pray for. Keep a record of the requests, in the event the Lord answers those prayers. Lord-willing, the requests will grow in significance as your grow deeper together.
