President
Dr BG Smith CBE (49-58)
1. Approval of the Minutes of the Annual General Meeting held on 29 October 2010 was proposed by TJ Walsh, seconded by PL Gray, and carried unanimously. The Minutes were duly signed as a correct record. 2. The Accounts for 2010 were issued to all present and explained by the Hon Treasurer. Referring to the Expenditure Account (page 4), he drew attention to the considerably lower cost of distribution of the Yearbook, which had resulted in an unexpectedly large, though welcome surplus for the year. Unfortunately, this had been caused because of the inefficiency of the distributers who failed to mail out about half the copies, an error which only became apparent when numerous members failed to receive their copy. He also drew attention to the mark down of the stock of CDs held in the Commissariat. Referring to the Balance Sheet, he drew attention to the two lines concerning the Destefano Bequest. Of the £1,000 retained by the Club the previous year, £159 had been used to purchase a commemorative plaque now on display on a balcony of the College Pavilion. The surplus of £841 had now been made over to the OA Endowment Fund. Turning to the investment portfolio, Mr Kendall explained that the investment policy followed by the Trustees was for income rather than capital growth. In answer to a question from Mr Walters, the Treasurer explained that the drop in the gross cost of dinners (Expenditure The President thanked the Hon Treasurer for his meticulous handling of the Club’s finances. Approval of the accounts was proposed by TJ Walsh, seconded by GNC Ward and carried unanimously. 3. Grants for 2012: • £1,000 to the College for Alleyn Club Prizes • £1,000 to the Master’s Fund for sponsorships (through the OA Endowment Fund) • A grant of £500 to the OA Clubhouse Fund • £50 to each of the Old Alleynian Sporting Clubs if required by these Clubs Account) was a result of the College having generously funded the Founder’s Day lunch.
