Overseas Events 2011

Hong Kong Lunch On Wednesday 7 March the Master, Dr Joseph Spence, was joined by approximately 20 OAs and their guests for lunch at the American Club in Hong Kong. The event, which was kindly organised by Felix Lai (98-00) and hosted at the American Club by Dulwich College Governor and former parent, Bunt Ghosh, offered an opportunity for OAs living and working in Hong Kong and the surrounding region to come together, network and learn of the latest news and developments from Dulwich. Felix and Bunt are working with the Alleyn Club & Development Office to expand the number and range of networking opportunities for OAs in Hong Kong. Please contact the office for further information – alleynclub@dulwich.org. uk. Those OAs in attendance were: Edward Cheung (87-89); Ted Chwu (86-93); Nick Hunsworth (68-75); Edward Lam (89-91); Felix Lai (98-00); Jintao Liu (00- 02); Shant Manoukian (89-94); Howard Oliver (53-59); Derek So (01-03); Martin Tsang (03-05); Wilfred Tyson (48-51); Mark Vestey (79-86); Jason Ving (93-01); and Brian Wong (03-05).

Hollywood Dinner On Sunday 22 May OAs from six consecutive decades, together with their wives, partners and guests, gathered at the Palm Restaurant on Santa Monica Boulevard in Los Angeles for the 2011 OA Hollywood Dinner. The event, kindly organised by Richard Evans (87-95), was a great success and attended by the following OAs: Dilip Adarkar (51-54); Bernard Battley (48-56); Philip Battley (87-92); John Corcoran (73-80); Richard Evans (87-95); Bill Grantham (68- 75); Richard Littlehailes (46-49); Peter Montgomery (55-62); and Les Moss (43-48). The 2012 Hollywood Dinner will take place at the Palm Restaurant, Santa Monica Boulevard on Saturday 30 June and anyone interested in attending should contact Richard via evansrichardjames@gmail.com. Thailand Dinner About 15 OAs are resident in Thailand and we like to get together three or four times a year over a good dinner. We often host visiting OAs, most recently from Singapore, Mumbai, Phnom Penh and the US, and local Alleyn’s School alumni and a JAGS lady are also regulars at our gatherings. The highlight of 2011 was an evening of classical music, including Dvorak and Sibelius. The chairman of the company which owned the theatre was an OA, as were the conductor and the General Manager of the hotel which hosted the dinner. Needless to say, we had excellent seats, enjoyed sublime music and a super dinner. It’s a small world! Mike Smith
