A Moroccan governmental edict of May 1959 threatened to discontinue radio broadcasting from Tangier by December 31, 1959. Negotiations are being carried on with the Moroccan government by the Voice of Tangier for the continued broadcasting from the Tangier transmitters after the year-end deadline. Rev. Paul Freed of the Voice of Tangier states that nego­ tiations are now being conducted to continue the radio broadcasts after this dead-line date, but we are not certain now of the result. “We are not really worried,” says Mr. Freed, “ since this new Monte Carlo operation will be

Our objective is to reach the Russian people and others with a strong signal which can­ not be overpowered by neighboring frequencies or radio interference.” In answer to the question of the jamming of broadcasts Mr. Freed states that, “ though the political broadcasts of the Voice of America, Radio Free Europe and the Rritish Broadcasting Corporation have been jammed consistently by the many jamming stations in Russia (there are approximately 500 of them), the non­ political Bible-centered programs from Tangier have not been interrupted, but are reported to be heard by thou­ sands of listeners through the Soviet Union and its Satellite countries.” THE KING'S BUSINESS

This new full-time m i s s i o n a r y transmitter, the first in Europe, has been under construction for about a year and will be put at our disposal 24 hours a day in 1960. It will be located in Monte Carlo, Monaco, near­ ly 1000 miles closer to Moscow than the transmitters in Tangier, Morocco. The entire transmitting system of TRANS WORLD RADIO will involve an advance of over a half-million dol­ lars. This new Thompson-Houston transmitter in Monte Carlo, Monaco, is the result of three years of negotia-
