Watch carefully, and you will notice that the magnet is drawing her up through the red. Could Mrs. Needle come to the magnet without passing through the red? “No, she cannot come up any other way.” When Christ draws people, He does so in order that He may bring them to His blood for cleansing and salvation. In the lid of this glass there are two openings. One is marked “Death,” and the other “ Christ’s Coming.” In order to pass through either one, it is absolutely necessary to pass through the red, which stands for salvation through the blood of Christ. Mrs. Needle is drawn to the open ing marked “Death,” then through it, and for the first time she touches the magnet. What a joy. it will be to see Christ for the first time! Mr. Needle has been very lonely since Mrs. Needle has been taken away, but now he also feels the drawing power of the magnet. A wonderful and new thing hap pens to him. He is drawn to and through the red and is waiting to come out. But he does not need to come through the hole marked “Death.” A new way opens for him to come out o f this sinful world, and that opening is marked “ Christ’s Coming.” No one has passed as yet through this new door, but many of us may do so some day. How happy Mr. and Mrs. Needle will be, when they meet again in heaven! They will be glad that they re sponded to the drawing power o f Christ. God’s Willingness “The Lord hath heard my supplication; the Lord will receive my prayer” (Psa.6:9). We must not conceive of prayer as an overcoming o f God’s reluctance, but a laying hold o f His highest willingness. — A rchbishop T rench .
“ The loss of wealth is much, The loss o f health is more, But the loss o f the soul is such a loss That no man can restore.” Yet how few are prostrated with grief at the prospect of the loss o f a soul! — S elected . II. B ad B argains A Sunday-school teacher once remarked that he who buys the truth makes a good bargain, and inquired if any scholar could recall an instance in Scripture o f a bad bargain. “I can,” replied a boy. “Esau made a bad bargain when he sold his birthright for a mess o f pottage.” A second pupil said: “Judas made a bad bargain when he sold his Lord for thirty pieces o f silver.” A third boy observed: “ Our Lord tells us that he makes a bad bargain, who, to gain the whole world, loses his own soul.” Three bad bargains indeed I — P ickering .
