Rockland Nationals struggle over the weekend

The Rockland Nationals lost both their games over the weekend. The Rockland Nats fought hard against the Smiths Falls Bears on Friday, February 2, but could not overcome their struggles for a victory. The Nats lost the game 4-3 in overtime. Alex Robert opened the scoring in the first period with a goal for the Nats, but Alex DiCarlo reposnded late in the first for the Bears. The Smiths Falls Bears came out strong in the second period scoring two goals – one from Matthew Franche and one from Mi- chael Larose. Dallas Maurovic then scored one for the Nats, leaving the score at 3-2 at the end of the second. Nats’ goaltender Sean Storr was able to keep the Bears from scoring in the third period, allowing the Nats to tie the game. Trevor Coykendall picked up a goal four minutes into the third, bringing the Nats to overtime. Alex DiCarlo won the game for the Bears with his second goal of the night, 21 seconds into overtime. This game-wining goal, his second of the night, and his one assist of the match earned him the first star. Alex Robert was named second star for his goal for the Nats and Bears’ Matthieu Franche was named third star for his one goal and one assist.

The Rockland Nats then took on the Brockville Braves on Sunday, February 4, but fell 4-1. The Nats’ only goal of the game came late into the first period by Brady El- der. The Braves came out strong with four goals throughout the game by Jordi Jeffer-
son, Andrew Jarvis, Eric Holland and Mike McArthur. Nats’ goaltender Sean Storr man- aged to save 37 out of 41 shots that came his way. The Nats had 33 shots on net, but only delivered once. The Nats will play back-to-back games
against the Hawkesbury Hawks next week- end. The Nats will hit the road for Hawkes- bury on Friday, February 9, and will then host the Hawks at the CIHArena on Sunday, February 11.
