AND HAPPY NEW YEAR!
A MESSAGE FROM OUR RC DIRECTOR MARGARET MATTHEWS
As we pack away our Christmas decorations, we look toward the New Year and the many opportunities it presents for evangelization. How can we bring those we know and those we have yet to meet closer to Jesus in the coming days, weeks, and months? Our efforts must remain steadfast as we unite with our Lord, who promises a future filled with hope and promise for all who know Him. In our locality, we have much to look forward to, and as always, I want to thank our section directors, team leaders, group leaders, chaplains, apostolate directors, spiritual guides, and everyone else who is providing for the ongoing workings of our locality. Your dedication to the execution of our programs and activities is what drives our ability to evangelize. The HUB eNewsletter showcases the many excellent opportunities that are being provided for our own formation and the formation of those we invite. I urge everyone to take part fully in these activities and to invite others to experience the incredible blessing of being RC! We have submitted our Locality’s budget to the Territory. Our 2024 budgeting process involved each section laying out their annual plan ...

and the corresponding finances. Once completed, the Regnum Christi Calgary Association (RCCA) board and the Regnum Christi Director’s (RCD) Council approved it. Our budget is critical to providing for the various needs of and investments in our locality. For example, it supports the programs and events within each section. It also includes dedicated funds to develop our leaders, providing financial support for them to attend the territory’s conferences and other educational offerings. Our budget also pays for all the administrative aspects of running our locality, such as bank fees and insurance. We also provide significant ongoing financial support to our Legionaries here in Calgary. We need to raise $70,000 this year to balance our budget. In order to achieve this, we ask each member to donate monthly to RCCA. We hope each member will give $100 monthly. Some give much more - others less, but each one is highly encouraged to participate by giving. Gifts are tax-deductible, so essentially, a $100 monthly gift will be about $50 after tax. We have many members who are not giving at this time. This is likely because they haven't been asked as I am doing here now, or perhaps they do not yet understand the details I mentioned above regarding why donations are needed and how they are spent. If you are not yet giving, I sincerely ask you to please start now. Giving is important, and we make it as easy as possible. Just click on this LINK to start your monthly donations. If you are intentionally not giving because you have questions or concerns, please call me. I want to hear your concerns. I want every member to feel good about giving to our locality. This video (access code: 3?1N?xZF) explains more about RC Calgary’s fundraising. Every one of you plays a critical and valuable role, contributing in your particular way through donations but also through prayer, fellowship and service to the vital work and community of Regnum Christi in Calgary. Together, we are creating something truly wonderful; a testament to the strength of a community united in and through Christ. If you have thoughts, ideas, questions or concerns about Regnum Christi in Calgary, I encourage and welcome your feedback! Be assured of my daily prayers as you venture into this exciting new year as an apostle filled with hope in our Lord Jesus Christ, ready to do His will! God Bless, Margaret

Gemma Ottenbreit and Lauren Weimer Year-Long Emphasis on Missionary Discipleship
in alignment with the Diocesan Renewal in Calgary, its priority is that Catholics of the diocese be ever more aware that they are called to “form Missionary Disciples.” This will offer Regnum Christi members the opportunity to share its charism, formation, and spiritual gifts with our fellow Catholics in Calgary. Over the course of the upcoming year, Fr. John Gannon, LC and Fr. John (JP) Luxbacher, LC will integrate the teachings from Fr. John Bartunek’s book, “ 60 Days to Becoming a Missionary Disciple,” into their weekend homilies. In pursuit of enhancing the coordination of formation opportunities and cultivating Missionary awareness at Ascension Parish, Michelle Hoffmann has graciously taken on the responsibility of overseeing parish programs and Evangelization initiatives. With her extensive background in formation and leadership, Michelle's wealth of experience will undoubtedly prove invaluable to the Parish. Program and Evangelization Coordinator
Her involvement comes at a crucial time as the Parish embarks on the implementation of the Diocesan Renewal and establishes its new Mission Statement, focusing on the formation of Missionary Disciples.

Apostolate NEWS
In December 2023, we experienced our most active month so far. We continue to partner with Clear Water Academy to offer the Men’s Leadership Breakfast Series. Fr. Kenneth LeBlanc, LC (aka “The Lumenator”) wrapped up the Fall series by preaching on the 12th Lumen Virtue: Influence. The breakfast was attended by twenty-two men, including CWA dads, Lumen and RC members, and other men from the Diocese. Looking ahead, we are excited to announce our upcoming spring series of five breakfasts scheduled from January to May 2024 . For details and to register, click HERE. The absolute highlight of our month was the Elizabeth House Christmas Party. One of the core elements of Lumen is Lumen Action - apostolate. Because five of the Lumen Members and Fr. Kenneth have been missionaries on the Father/Daughter New Orleans mission, we have seen the value of an ongoing, systematic and repeatable apostolate. We thought of how we could do that in Calgary and very quickly landed on Elizabeth House. We reached out to Elizabeth House and suggested that we would like to do a spring and fall yard clean-up at their property but more than that we wanted to involve our wives and children. We suggested the Lumen men would do the projects but our wives and children would join for lunch with the ladies and children at Elizabeth House. They loved the idea so much that within a few days, they called back to suggest we get acquainted as soon as possible - their Christmas party. Lumen hosted the event for 122 at the Ascension Parish Hall. Each Lumen Member and some of our prospective members had a family table which Elizabeth House filled with current and past residents, volunteers and staff. It was fantastic, as was the feedback from Elizabeth House. “It was a memorable evening held in love and hope. The residents and alumni were excited to attend and we had wonderful feedback about their experience. There was nothing but care and respect shown for everyone and all the children were celebrated and joyful. It was an honour to meet you all in this way, to know your hearts and to work together in shared hope and humility with such wonderful results.” Michelle Haywood, Program Manager, Elizabeth House
