Apostolate NEWS
In December 2023, we experienced our most active month so far. We continue to partner with Clear Water Academy to offer the Men’s Leadership Breakfast Series. Fr. Kenneth LeBlanc, LC (aka “The Lumenator”) wrapped up the Fall series by preaching on the 12th Lumen Virtue: Influence. The breakfast was attended by twenty-two men, including CWA dads, Lumen and RC members, and other men from the Diocese. Looking ahead, we are excited to announce our upcoming spring series of five breakfasts scheduled from January to May 2024 . For details and to register, click HERE. The absolute highlight of our month was the Elizabeth House Christmas Party. One of the core elements of Lumen is Lumen Action - apostolate. Because five of the Lumen Members and Fr. Kenneth have been missionaries on the Father/Daughter New Orleans mission, we have seen the value of an ongoing, systematic and repeatable apostolate. We thought of how we could do that in Calgary and very quickly landed on Elizabeth House. We reached out to Elizabeth House and suggested that we would like to do a spring and fall yard clean-up at their property but more than that we wanted to involve our wives and children. We suggested the Lumen men would do the projects but our wives and children would join for lunch with the ladies and children at Elizabeth House. They loved the idea so much that within a few days, they called back to suggest we get acquainted as soon as possible - their Christmas party. Lumen hosted the event for 122 at the Ascension Parish Hall. Each Lumen Member and some of our prospective members had a family table which Elizabeth House filled with current and past residents, volunteers and staff. It was fantastic, as was the feedback from Elizabeth House. “It was a memorable evening held in love and hope. The residents and alumni were excited to attend and we had wonderful feedback about their experience. There was nothing but care and respect shown for everyone and all the children were celebrated and joyful. It was an honour to meet you all in this way, to know your hearts and to work together in shared hope and humility with such wonderful results.” Michelle Haywood, Program Manager, Elizabeth House
