A MESSAGE FROM HEAD OF YEAR 10
The second week back has progressed well, students have been working hard on their GCSE courses with renewed vigour.
This week we have launched the DofE Silver award in tutor time and all students have the opportunity to sign up and get involved. Students should sign up to the Google classroom (Yr 10 Silver DofE 2024) where they can access documents and ask questions. The code to access this Google classroom is wl4kyp5. Action required from students and parents is as follows: Students need to complete the google form outlining why they would like to complete the Award and what activities they would like to do. Parents and carers need to please read the parental email, sign the google form and make payment to ParentPay to register your child. Please note that the Google forms deadline and the deposit deadline are both on Monday 29 January 2024. It has been a great start to the term with epraise points, our top points scorers this week are Daniela in 10SHO, Jodie in 10SDR and Sofia in 10FJA. The top form this week is 10PCL with 34 points, closely followed by 10FJA and 10EAH. Keep up the good work. Coming up next week we will be focusing on life skills and independent living in tutor time. With sessions on mindfulness and stress, developing resilience, planning for success, income and tax, looking after finances and staying financially safe online. We are currently undergoing uniform checks in school and students were reminded of the uniform expectations in form time this week. In particular, students should not be wearing more than one earring in each ear and necklaces can be worn, but should not be seen. Skirts also need to be the correct length and students must wear lanyards at all times.

BOOK OF THE MONTH
Looking for Alaska by John Green
“Looking for Alaska’’ by John Green is a poignant exploration of adolescence, love, and loss. The novel follows the journey of Miles Halter as he navigated the labyrinth of boarding school life and falls for the enigmatic Alaska Young. With a perfect blend of humour and heartbreak, Green crafts a narrative that resonates with readers long after the last page. “Looking for Alaska’’ is a beautifully written coming-of-age story that captures the essence of the human experience in a way that is both relatable and profound.
