Back in the 1980s, at the Royal Adelaide Hospital, rheumatologist Professor Les Cleland was trialling the use of fish oil to treat inflammatory diseases. However, there was no liquid fish oil available at the time, and the therapeutic dose required a patient to take 10 or more capsules per day, which was unaffordable, not to mention unpleasant-tasting. Professor Cleland approached Melrose founder Geoff Steinicke, who supplied an odourless, lightly-flavoured fish oil in reasonably-priced 500 mL bottles – a one-month supply. Together, Melrose and Professor Cleland’s team made fish oil more accessible to the general population. The health of Australians, Health Heroes

not profit, was their priority. Further, in 2006 Melrose began donating a percentage of fish oil sales to assist the arthritis research by Professor Cleland and his team, who have conducted many studies into fish oil as a complementary therapy for rheumatoid arthritis. They found that fish oil taken with standard medications reduced symptoms and the need for drugs, and also that the clinical benefit is related to blood levels of EPA, an omega-3 fatty acid in fish oil. Their research results have become part of standard treatment for rheumatoid arthritis patients in the Royal Adelaide Hospital Early Arthritis Clinic, established in 1998.

Fish Oil + Vitamin D Joint & Bone: To support optimal bone and joint health. Cod Liver Oil Health & Vision: High in vitamin A, cod liver oil supports eye health along with general health and wellbeing. Each oil is lightly flavoured, meaning there is no unpleasant fishy taste or fishy burps.
