then on, nearly every time she looked in the bowl Marilyn saw another bud there. They grew so quickly that soon the blue bowl held a lovely little gar den of beautiful, bright tulips—red, and yellow, and purple. The ugly brown b u l b s were gone now. The Heavenly Father had brought m a n y lovely flowers from them. “O, Mother, they are so beautiful!” Marilyn was so happy she jumped up and down and clapped her hands. Mother drew her close, just like she had done on the day when they had discovered the first, tiny, green sprout on the b r o w n bulb. “These tulips have b r o u g h t us a precious les son, Ma r i l y n . You see, while we are here on the e a r t h , because we sin, our lives are somewhat like the tulip b u l b s—ugly, and brown, and gray. But we know that the Lord Jesus has told us: ‘Because I live, ye shall live also.’ That means that some day we shall go to live with Him, and then, just as He changed the bulbs into the lovely flowers, He will make us like He is—beautiful and glorious.” “That’s wonderful,”' said Marilyn thoughtfully. “Mother, I think Grand mother’s gift is the very best of all my birthday presents. It makes me love Jesus more than I ever have be fore.” ' —M. S. H. Crossword Puzzle Answers

Bible Bees How many of you like honey? Most of you do, no doubt. We know that the bees are very happy as they busily go from flower to flower gathering the honey which they take into their houses—beehives, we call them. There they work with it until it is all in a honeycomb. How very sweet the honey is!' However, there is one thing which is sweeter—God’s Word; for we read in Psalm 19:10 that it is "sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb.” Can you recite some Scripture verses from memory that have become to you sweeter than honey? Today we will place on our Scrip- turegraph b o a r d (a board covered with black outing flannel) a large bee hive. (Draw a beehive on paper, then paste outing flannel on the back of it so that it will adhere to the Scripture- graph board.) And around this beehive we will place some B i b l e “Bees.” (These Bible “Bees” can be strips of paper, having outing flannel pasted on the backs. A verse beginning with “be” should be printed on each.) The Bible contains many “Bees”—verses which are “sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb.” Would you like to get acquainted with some of these, and memorize them? Here are a few: "Be ye kind one to another” (Eph. 4:32). “ Be ye thankful” (Col. 3:15). “Be courteous” (1 Pet. 3:8). “Be ye holy in all manner of con versation” (1 Pet. 1:15). "Be ye therefore m e r c i f u l ” (Lk. 6:36). “Be ye steadfast, immovable” (1 Cor. 15:58). “Be thou faithful unto death” (Rev. 2 : 10 ). “Be strong in the Lord” (Eph. 6:10). “Be patient” (1 Thess. 5:14). “Be ye therefore followers of God” (Eph. 5:1). The Gift That Grew It was Marilyn's birthday, and she vas so excited and happy that she sould hardly untie the ribbons around Srandmother’s gift. Grandmother al ways sent something nice, and Mar ilyn could scarcely wait to see what this was. She tore the paper away quickly, lifted the lid from the pretty box, and then a big lump came in her throat. “O, Mother,” s h e gasped. "This is terrible!” She held up her gift for her mother to see it—a bowl of flower bulbs. The blue bowl was beautiful, b u t the bulbs were so ugly, and brown, and gray. Marilyn’s eyes were full of tears as Mother drew her up close and said softly, “Dear, this year Grandmother has sent you a gift that is a real surprise, for hidden away in these dark, ugly bulbs is something very beautiful.” “I don’t see how anything beautiful could ever come from these dry old things,” Marilyn sobbed. “Just wait and see,” promised Moth er. “We will put some warm earth in the bowl for the bulbs to grow in. Then, each day you must be sure to give them some water. It will be fun to wait for the surprise.” Day after day Marilyn watched over the birthday bulbs, and then one day a tiny green sprout appeared. “Mother, Mother,” Marilyn called excitedly, “the little brown bulbs are waking up.” Mother came quickly to see what had happened—and there peeping out from one of the dark brown bulbs was a wee bit of something green. “Is this the surprise, Mother?” asked Marilyn. “This is only part of it,” Mother answered. “But you must go- right on taking care of the bulbs and someday the best part of the surprise will come.” In the pretty blue bowl things hap pened quickly after this. The b l a d e grew taller and taller, and other slen der leaves grew from all the o t h e r bulbs—and then one day Marilyn and her Mother discovered a tiny bud com ing up among the green leaves.
