Yokefellows “Walk worthy of the Lord . . . fruit* ful in every good work’’ CCol. 1:10). We may as well imagine a body without life as a faith in Christ with out works. This means that it is im possible to exercise a devout faith in Christ as Saviour, without producing fruits in Christian service. True faith automatically produces works. When \ye know Christ as we should, we shall immediately desire to serve Him. —The Brethren Evangelist. Good Business for Christ "The kingdom of heaven is like unto a merchantman” (Matt. 13:45). Since the citizen of the Kingdom of God is suggestively compared to a merchantman, there must be some thing about him execeedingly busi nesslike and enterprising. Many Chris tians who are thoroughly alert in earning their daily bread are sleepy and resourceless when they go about their Father’s business. If we would be as businesslike in the pursuit of holiness as we are in our pursuit of gold, we would speedily become spir itual millionaires, wealthy, endowed with the unsearchable riches of Christ. Let us exercise our business aptitudes in the acquisition of the treasures of heaven.—J. H. Jowett. Grace Enough for All “He is able also to save them to the uttermost” (Heb. 7:25). God be praised for his boundless and unstinted grace! It reaches out to the farthest soul and down to the deepest sin. Not one of us is so good that He needs not to continually draw upon this overflow of God’S love. Nor is any one so wayward, so lost in sin, that Christ cannot lead him back to the Father. We rejoice, merciful God, in the plenitude of thy grace and in the full ness of thy salvation.— Baptist Herald. The Banner of Divine Power "When the enemy shall come in like a flood, the Spirit of the Lord shall lift up a standard against him” (Isa. 59:19). A beautiful contrast here—the gentle Spirit standing against the tempestu ous flood. Have you ever measured the strength that lies in being Con scious of the right? It has doubled the power of armies. There is a power in the sense of right; there is a weak ness in the sense of wrong. I have, not raised a perfect embankment against the flood until the Spirit of the Lord has planted His standard there. Spirit of Christ though the waters rise up to the brim, they shall not overflow me, if only there shall gleam behind me that standard of rectitude which is the lifting up of the banner of Thy power.—George Matheson.
That Costless Service “Let your light. . . shjne” (Matt. 5:16). It ought to be easier for Christians to smile than for other folks. Christ is living in every Christian, and Christ is “ the light of the world” (John 8:12). Some one has written: "A smile en riches those who' receive it without making poorer those who give it. It takes only a moment, but the mem ory of it sometimes lasts forever. No one is so rich that he can get along without it; and no one is so poor that he cannot be made rich by it. Some people are too tired to give you a smile. Give them one of yours, as no one needs a smile so much as he who has none to give.” —Sunday School Times. . . . Morning listlessness is the in dex to a listless heart. Do you hunger and thirst for God? If you do, seek Him early in the day. —E. M. Bounds.
