of our text, and finally associate the promise of Christ’s presence with us with the obedience to His command. For Those Who Have Topics I. TODAY. God worked marvelously in South east Asia through the ministry of preaching and living the gospel of Christ by such men as John Williams, James Chalmers, and Adoniram Jud- son. Today the missionaries are out of those lands, according to the infinite wisdom of God; behind the closed doors new wonders of grace are being performed. Have you read the story of the great revival that came to Ethiopia during the years of Italian subjugation? Thousands of men ac cepted Christ during those dark days. We may expect something of the same kind in Southeast Asia. Word has come, out that the Christians are carry ing on under their own leaders. They are learning to depend upon the Holy Spirit instead of the missionaries. If there be persecution in some places, we may be sure that it is for the purifying and strengthening of the Christians and their testimony. II. TOMORROW. God had a purpose in allowing the removal of the missionaries. When that purpose is accomplished, we may expect Him to open the doors again. Wheh that time comes, we may find that there is a greater evangelistic opportunity than ever before. Even though some may expect to return to re-establish the Old regime, it is to be hoped that the great changés on the field will make that impossible. In the past years it was necessary to establish educational work for the training of Christian workers. Some of the schools .developed into great institutions, and then administrative and teaching responsibilities required the . major or total effort of many missionaries. Let us hope that those who have been trained can now carry( those responsibilities, so that mis sionaries may be free to devote full time, to the gospel ministry. Evangelistic preaching and teaching in the schools are two of the most profitable parts of the missionary’s work. In addition, there are opportuni ties to preach in the prisons, in, the street chapels, in the cities, and in the villages and country areas. Medical men , evangelistic mis sionaries, agriculturists, and all types of workers may have a marvelous ministry of winning men to Christ by going out into the midst of the people; by living close to them, suffering with them, ministering to them in love and humility.

[ Continued from Page 146] 3. French Indo-China has a popula tion of over twenty-three millions. Faithful missionaries have carried on evangelistic work there following the plan of contacting whole families and winning some, rather than of estab lishing schools where the majority are not Christian. 4. Rejoice again for the Christians of the Malay States and for those of the South Seas where millions dwell in poverty, sin, and superstition. II. THE PRESENT CHASTENING (Psa. 66:8-12). The church west of the date line is being refined as silver. The Christians there are suffering the agonies of war. Pray without ceasing that these Christians may be strengthened and enabled to stand their severe test ings (Eph. 6:10-20). _ III. THE CHALLENGE OF THE FUTURE- The issues of the war have wrought many new situations in the South Seas, and the future of missionary work there will hot only be a fertile subject of discussion, but also a challenge to e v e r y o n e to bettèr acquaint himself with . the facts in order to shoulder the responsibilities. Young people are needed to see true values and to face them unflinchingly as God gives wisdom without partiality (Jas. 3:17). Subjects for Discussion 1. How much supervision- should the native Christian leaders in foreign Mission field's have after the war? 2. ShouldJarger buildings be erected to replacé those destroyed during the war? 3. Should more direct evangelism be done, and let the government carry on their own educational work? 4. Should missionaries with spe cialized training, medical or educa tional, be expected to teach the Bible?

“Go ye” is a'. command; we Chris tians may decide whether we shall or shall not obey,,;but only in obedience is there God’s rich blessing. ‘"There fore” connects the command with the fact that all power in heaven and earth belongs to Christ, the fact that insures victory.: His power becomes operative in the lives of the “peoples” (not nations), through oiir witness.
