DOES THIS PICTURE FIT YOU? By. Lt. Marshall B. Shallis Our loving Master finds a certain type of Christian revolting, nauseating, and incapable of good use. This sick ening sort of person Is epitomized in one word: lukewarm (Rev. 3:16). We will describe him as we imagine him: He prays, usually for his own im mediate needs. He reads the newspaper in the morning, a library book after dinner, and eight verses in the Bible before going to bed—perhaps. He enjoys his one or two church m e e t i n g s per week—otherwise lie wouldn’t go. When asked, he teaches a class or leads a service, but he re sponds with reluctance. He talks a little impersonal religion at the office, and has an occasional argument about it.' He is sure that God Is love, but'is a little shaky on the doctrine of judg ment. He is too shy to give out tracts. He thinks the Church is decadent and the world is waxing worse, and he hopes that the Lord will come again soon and take him out of it. He thinks it is a pity that so many nice people are not’ Christians, but doesn’t see what can be done about it, more than is being done already. And in any case, what with all the young men away at war, he thinks perhaps it would be best to wait until things settle down a bit after the war before expecting anything like a revival. Is this portrait recognizable? With all humility we recall again those solemn words, “B e c a u s e thou art lukewarm . . . " Many are far from being lukewarm. They are keen and devoted Christians, and yet are not full up to the brim with the work of the Lord. There are others who may find reason to apply the foregoing paragraphs to them selves, and, when warmed up, may have energy released which seeks ex pression. If our neighbor is to be rescued from the fearful consequences of sin, it will not be because he has sought out the way of salvation for himself, but because some Christian, as he journeyed, ministered the gospel mes sage to him by the wayside. If men are to be won for Christ, then riot merely the fulltime clergy and evange lists, but every Christian must—in the environment in which God has placed him—witness, "in season and out.” It is imperative that Christians em brace a policy of self-denial for Christ’s sake, in order to spare just that extra hour, that extra dollar, that extra effort needed to bring the glad tidings of salvation to just one more soul.

,A loud crash split the- darkness of the cold winter night. For the forty white-faced passengers in the speeding bus it appeared that the end had come. They had been run ning without lights, for as the bus rounded the curve to cross the bridge spanning a deep gorge, the lights had failed.- Vainly the driver had punched the dashboard but tons. He dared not apply the brakes. The bus was filled with Bible School students, homeward bound for thè Christmas holidays. Full of high spirits, they had been sing ing carols and choruses. Daily they had held devotions; this very night their song had been: "Goodnight, God is watching over you.” A crash—and suddenly there was .light! The driver straightened the wheels. Miraculously, though they had struck the bridge, they were still on the road and unharmed. ■A hasty examination disclosed that apparently a bump had caused a “short” and the blow against the bridge had shifted it sufficiently, to restore the lights. After wrapping a bare cable, they proceeded on their way, but not beforè a thanks giving prayer meglhig was held. Christian, if you cannot see your way in the darkness, do not fear. Deliverance may comé through a blow but it will surely come. "Our God Is watching over you!” And when the lights come on, do not fall to give Him thanks.
