and laid him down every day a t the rich m an’s gate, so th a t he m ight get th e crumbs and pieces of food th a t were le ft from th e rich m an’s table. Even th e dogs seemed to pity him, fo r they came and licked his sore». Onb day the beggar died, and his sp irit was carried by th e angels to heaven. He was not poor there, and did n o t have to beg, b u t was w ith th e g rea t man Abraham , and leaning on his bosom. The rich man also died, and his sp irit w ent where the wicked go, for he did not love Jesus. Boys and girls, w hat is th e name of th e place where th e poor beggar went to live? Heaven. Do you know th e name of th e platie where the rich man went? Yes, he went down to hell, th e place prepared fo r Satan and all who followed him. Now th e rich man looked up from hell and saw Lazarus, and asked A bra ham to send Lazarus down to bring him ju st a drop of w ater, b u t Abraham told him th ere was a g reat gulf between heaven and hell, which no one could pass over. Then the rich man begged fo r Lazarus to be sent to his home back on earth , w here h e had five brothers living, who were wicked like himself, and he did not w ant them to be lost and come to th e dreadful place w ith him. Abraham answered telling him th e b ro th ers had th e Bible ju st the same as he had when he was living, and th a t if they would not believe th e Bible th e re was nothing more he could do. I t is ju st the same today, God h as left th e wonderful Bible h ere to show us th a t th e way to heaven is by believing on Jesus, God’s Son who died to save us from our sin, and when we tru s t in Him and obey Him, we belong to Jesus, and when these bodies die, the angels will ta k e our souls home to heaven, and we will meet Lazarus and Abraham and all th e rest who love Jesus, and best of all we will be w ith Jesus in heaven forever. (Go on th rough th e story of the P rod i gal emphasizing th e love of God for th e wayward and lost ones.)
