A MESSAGE FROM HEAD OF YEAR 9
It has been another action packed week at Waldegrave. Well done to all those students who have made fantastic starts to the new term. It has been great to see Year 9 getting back into their routines and extra curricular activities. This week students in Years 7, 8 and 9 who achieved a top 10% score in the UK Bebras Challenge back in November have been taking part in the Oxford University Computing Challenge. This is an invitation event in which students have the opportunity to develop their skills further and produce programmed solutions to computational thinking problems. Well done to everyone who participated!
Congratulations to 9SPI who got the most epraise points this week. They are closely followed by 9EJO. Well done, both of you!
Last term, the English department entered into the ‘poetry by heart’ competition which encourages students to try and learn poems that they can then recite off book in class. Well done to all of the students that took part. The English department was really impressed with students’ participation and it was brilliant to see so many poems performed with such energy and creativity. Congratulations especially to those students that made it to the semi finals! The next round of the competition will take place on Monday 29 January in front of a panel of judges. Students that get through to the finals will have the opportunity to go to the Globe Theatre to perform. We are currently undergoing uniform checks in school and students were reminded of the uniform expectations in form time this week. In particular, students should not be wearing more than one earring in each ear and necklaces can be worn, but should not be seen. Skirts also need to be the correct length and students must wear lanyards at all times.

BOOK OF THE MONTH
Looking for Alaska by John Green
“Looking for Alaska’’ by John Green is a poignant exploration of adolescence, love, and loss. The novel follows the journey of Miles Halter as he navigated the labyrinth of boarding school life and falls for the enigmatic Alaska Young. With a perfect blend of humour and heartbreak, Green crafts a narrative that resonates with readers long after the last page. “Looking for Alaska’’ is a beautifully written coming-of-age story that captures the essence of the human experience in a way that is both relatable and profound.
