Editor’s COMMENT GOVERNMENTS With only weeks to go until Electex Dublin, we can’t wait to welcome you to our exciting new venue, the National Indoor Arena in Blanchardstown, over September 10-11. There is still time to sign up for a few fundraising events over the coming months. The Dash of the Derg in aid of the Irish PUSH AHEAD WITH ELECTRIFICATION Benevolent Electrical Association will be held in Co Clare on September 5 (p67), while an abseil down the Europa Hotel in Belfast on October 12 will raise funds for the Electrical Industries Charity (p81). Good news for the industry this summer with both the Irish and UK governments pushing ahead with their electrification ambitions, despite mounting opposition to net zero. The Irish government published an updated National Development Plan in July, outlining its largest ever capital investment including €3.5bn for energy projects with ESB Networks and Eirgrid. A 10-year Modern Industrial Strategy published by the UK government in June identifies clean energy as one of eight growth-driving sectors, outlining plans to cut electricity costs, reduce grid connection times and simplify the planning process. WORLDSKILLS IRELAND RETURNS TO INSPIRE NEXT GENERATION
Electrical Installations is among 30 competition categories to be hosted at this year’s WorldSkills Ireland, set to be held in the RDS Dublin over September 17-19. As a growing number of students seek practical, skills-based pathways to build their future, the annual event aims to inspire and educate the next generation with real-world opportunities beyond the traditional academic route. In 2024, an unprecedented 75% of student attendees came to WorldSkills Ireland to explore real alternatives to university, underscoring a powerful shift in how young people view their future. The event helps to close the information gap around apprenticeships, skills training and
vocational opportunities, many of which are in high demand across industries such as construction and engineering. Through live demonstrations, competitions, industry talks, immersive experiences and direct engagement with employers, the three-day event equips students, educators and parents with the knowledge they need to confidently consider careers through apprenticeships, further education and training and technical professions. WorldSkills Ireland is a government and industry initiative, with partners including SISK, the Construction Industry Federation and ESB Networks. www.worldskillsireland.ie

ECA AND UNITE SECURE 14% WAGE HIKE FOR THOUSANDS OF ELECTRICIANS
Thousands of electricians across GB and Northern Ireland are set to benefit from a 14% pay rise over three years agreed by Electrical Contractors’ Association (ECA) and Unite the Union. The Joint Industry Board (JIB) collective agreement, which will benefit nearly 10,000 electricians employed by around 550
employers, includes a six-month lead in time for employers. From January 2026, workers will receive a 3.95% rise, followed by a 4.6% rise in 2027 and 4.85% rise in 2028. Apprentices will receive a 2% rise in 2027 and 3% rise in 2028, with the deal also providing improvements to sick pay. Unite is also beginning discussions with ECA on improving terms and conditions for pensions and travel expenditure. Jason Poulter, Unite National Officer for construction, said, “The increase of 14% over the next three years was hard won by our union through Unite’s lay member negotiators. Alongside the increase to electrical apprenticeship pay, this represents an excellent result only achievable by solid union organisation and workers coming together to ensure their skills are properly valued.” www.eca.co.uk/www.unitetheunion.org

Inverter smart adaptive technology modulates energy to maintain a consistent temperature with minimal consumption.
SETTING A NEW STANDARD IN ELECTRIC HEATING, ROINTE’S INVERTER SMART ADAPTIVE TECHNOLOGY AND NEXT-GEN RADIATORS OFFER FASTER, MORE STABLE COMFORT AND REDUCED ENERGY CONSUMPTION… Rointe delivers measurable savings and performance
SMARTER POWER. GREATER CONTROL. Inverter smart adaptive technology is a dynamic regulation system that intelligently adjusts power output rather than operating at a fixed maximum like traditional PID-based systems. While PID controllers run continuously at 100% power until the desired temperature is reached (then cycle power on and off to maintain it), Rointe’s system reduces stabilisation power use by up to 70%. This turnkey development not only simplifies installation but also enables substantial energy savings, optimising performance without sacrificing efficiency. This advanced control mechanism ensures a smoother, more efficient energy flow - an invaluable advantage in homes, businesses and particularly in
In a market where efficiency, reliability and user control are more important than ever, Rointe proudly introduces a true revolution in electric heating: inverter smart adaptive technology. This innovation, unique in the industry, represents a radical shift in how electric energy is managed, delivering faster comfort, greater temperature stability and significantly more efficiency. With inverter smart adaptive technology, Rointe’s latest generation of radiators heats up 25% faster, maintains temperature with 35% more stability and is 10% more efficient. For installers, this means more than just delivering comfort, it offers measurable savings and performance that end- users will notice right away.
buildings with limited electrical capacity or sensitive power loads.
FEWER SIZES. SAME POWER. SMARTER INSTALLATION. Thanks to inverter smart adaptive technology, product variations were reduced dramatically. Where seven different sizes (ranging from 330W to 1600W) were once required, the new system now works with just three power levels: 600W, 1200W and 1800W. In addition, the product automatically self regulates to deliver only the power needed to efficiently heat the space, further optimising energy consumption. Users can also manually limit the product’s maximum power output by up to 30%, either directly from the device (on models with a screen) or

For installers, this means delivering enhanced service and advanced technology without increasing installation complexity or cost. This adjustability brings greater flexibility, simpler planning and smarter stock management across all installation scenarios. HEATING WITH INTELLIGENCE: AI-POWERED EFFICIENCY Rointe’s latest radiators, including the EONIQ and KYROS, are equipped with Wi-Fi Direct technology (no gateways required) and connect seamlessly to the new Rointe Nexa app. But the real leap forward lies in its integrated AI system. This artificial intelligence layer learns from user habits, usage patterns and ambient conditions to deliver customised recommendations that optimise both comfort and energy savings. For installers, this means fewer support calls and higher long- term satisfaction. For users, it means effortless efficiency: comfort that adapts to them, not the other way around.
speaks for itself and builds trust in every installation.

based on user needs, reducing consumption by at least 8%.
In addition, the models feature high- precision digital thermostats (±0.1°C), accurately setting the user’s desired temperature (unlike other competitors), exclusive thermal fluid technology for uniform heat distribution and sustainable construction featuring 100% recycled aluminium. CO DOWN MEP ENGINEERING FIRM ADOPTS EMPLOYEE OWNERSHIP MODEL
Holywood engineering firm SCC Ltd has become the most recent Northern Ireland company to move to an employee ownership trust (EOT) model. The MEP consultancy has made the transition, which offers workers a share in the profits of the business and encourages them to be more actively involved in the decision-making process of the company. The decision was taken as founder and Managing Director Stephen Clarke was approaching retirement and, with no succession plans in place, he was hesitant to put the company on the market. Currently there are 18 EOTs operating in Northern Ireland including Gilbert Ash and White Ink Architects. Employee Ownership Ireland, which was set up earlier this year with a view to create 10,000 employee owners by 2030, provided support to SCC Ltd throughout each stage of the transition process and worked with the organisation to undertake a funded feasibility study. SCC was founded in 2003 by Stephen and his wife Jane as an M&E consultancy, providing M&E design services, M&E surveys and commissioning management. www.employeeownershipireland.com
