LIMERICK INITIATIVE AIMS TO BOOST UPTAKE OF ELECTRICAL APPRENTICESHIPS
National Electrical Wholesalers (Irl) Ltd (NEW) Limerick is supporting H&MV Engineering in a new initiative at CBS Thurles Secondary School aimed at encouraging uptake of electrical apprenticeships. A new module has been introduced to the school curriculum, in which students learn how to wire a 220v lighting and socket circuit. Set to return in September, the first round of the programme saw 40 students take the class from March to May this year. Alongside H&MV Engineering, NEW Limerick supported the initiative with its suppliers Hager, Core Electrical and Click
Scolmore also providing equipment for the module. Following the success of the initiative, CBS Thurles - which secured its ninth Harty Cup hurling title in 2025 - looks set to extend its pipeline of talent into the electrical sector. Neil Jordan, Branch Manager of NEW Limerick, said, “H&MV has rolled out this springboard to its electrical apprenticeship programme, and we were pleased to donate materials for the module and do our bit in encouraging the next generation to consider a career in the electrical industry.” www.new.ie
