A YEAR OF FUNDRAISING EVENTS MARKING THE CHARITY’S 120TH ANNIVERSARY INCLUDES AN ABSEIL DOWN THE EUROPA HOTEL BELFAST ON OCTOBER 12… Help the Electrical Industries Charity reach its £120,000 goal

An abseil down the Europa Hotel in Belfast on October 12 is among a series of events being held around the UK in 2025 to mark the 120th anniversary of the Electrical Industries Charity (EIC). Passing the halfway point through its anniversary year, EIC has £46,700 left to raise to hit its target of £120,000. EIC Managing Director Jess Vailima is participating in the Europa Hotel abseil, having already completed additional challenges in England, Scotland and Wales to celebrate the regions supported by the charity. This money will allow EIC to provide vital lifelines to individuals and families facing tough times including financial support, counselling, mental health support or education and training. Encouraging its supporters to complete a new challenge each month, highlights to date have included running the London Marathon, conquering Snowden in the Sea to Summit Challenge, ziplining over North Wales on the fastest zipline in the world, and walking 14 miles in the Glasgow Kiltwalk and 21 miles in the Thames Path Challenge. The Europa Hotel abseil represents the EIC Managing Director’s final #JoinJess challenge of the year. “I’m definitely a bit anxious about those initial few steps going over the ledge to start the abseil, but I’m also really excited to finish #JoinJess on a high,” said Jess. “I’ll be doing it with a fantastic group of people and, hopefully, we’ll be that little bit closer to reaching our £120,000 target. “These challenges bring people together, create awareness and raise vital funds for a cause that really matters. Seeing the impact firsthand keeps me motivated. “There are so many ways to get involved. You can join the challenge, volunteer your time or support through

fundraising and donations. Even sharing our message helps spread awareness and makes a big difference.” Founded in 1905, EIC supports those in need within the electrical and energy industries, providing financial assistance, emotional support and invaluable resources. With continued support, the charity is aiming to expand its reach, empower more lives and champion positive change across its industries. Members of the electrical and energy industries are invited to get involved through fundraising, volunteering or spreading awareness, either through their own initiatives or by supporting organised EIC events. NI REGIONAL COMMITTEE EIC is always looking for new members and new committees to help showcase and generate awareness of the

charity and its services and events. Its regional committees play a crucial role in supporting and advancing fundraising efforts within a specific geographic area. The NI Committee of EIC includes: Karen McAvoy, Chair (Ireland’s Electrical Magazine), Alfie Watterson (ECA), Duncan Orr (Aico), Gareth Howes (Solutions), Jake Keyworth (Edmundson Electrical Ltd), Mervyn Knox (Hager Northern Ireland), Tommy Barrett (City Electrical Factors NI) and John Auld (WS Mercer Belfast). Entry for the Europa Hotel abseil is £35, with a suggested fundraising target of £120, and brave volunteers can sign up by emailing fundraising@ electricalcharity.org.
