AT PRYSMIAN, PROUDLY SUPPLIED IN IRELAND BY PRECISION CABLES, GREENER THINKING IS WOVEN INTO EVERY STAGE OF CABLE MANUFACTURING, DELIVERING EXCEPTIONAL PERFORMANCE WITHOUT COMPROMISE... Powering sustainable progress with Prysmian
L-R: Prysmian sources copper with 30% recycled content, 100% low-carbon aluminium, multiplied its use of recycled polyethylene tenfold in 2024, and has redesigned its packaging to be both recyclable and made from recycled content.
“It’s about making choices today that help build a greener tomorrow.” transport efficiency, while water-based printing ensures easier recycling. These incremental improvements create substantial waste and carbon savings across the product’s journey from factory to site. Cathal Grace, Director of Sales with Precision, said, “At Precision Cables, we prioritise suppliers who can demonstrate genuine environmental progress, from certified sustainable copper and low- carbon aluminium to increased recycled polymer content and reduced packaging waste. “Partnering with companies that take measurable action allows us to offer customers high-performance cable solutions that also deliver on sustainability. It’s about making choices today that help build a greener tomorrow.” By choosing suppliers like Prysmian, Precision Cables ensures that its customers benefit from innovative products that combine technical excellence with a reduced environmental footprint, a vital step in powering sustainable progress.
Precision Cables, proud supplier of Prysmian products in Ireland, is committed to working with
solar sources. This shift cuts emissions by up to 75% compared with the global industry average, with a footprint as low as 4 tCO₂ per tonne versus 16.5 globally. The result is lighter, high-performing cables that not only ease installation but also significantly lower the total lifecycle impact. PIONEERING WITH POLYMERS Cable sheathing and insulation are vital for safety and durability. Prysmian multiplied its use of recycled polyethylene tenfold in 2024, with a clear pathway to achieving 30% recycled content in medium-voltage sheaths by 2027. Internal recycling, advanced regrinding and rigorous quality testing ensure that recycled polymers match the mechanical and electrical performance of virgin materials. This represents a genuine circular economy approach, reducing waste and dependence on fossil-based inputs while protecting the integrity of the final product. PACKAGING WITH PURPOSE Sustainability doesn’t end at the factory gate. Prysmian has redesigned its packaging to be both recyclable and made from recycled content. All plastic packaging now incorporates recycled material, while pallet wrap, self-adhesive paper tape and low-ink corrugated boxes reduce waste and environmental impact. Reels and boxes are lighter, improving handling and
manufacturers that place sustainability at the centre of their operations. Prysmian’s recent innovations demonstrate how greener thinking can be embedded in every stage of cable manufacturing, from raw material sourcing to packaging, without compromising on performance. SMARTER COPPER Copper remains the backbone of energy transmission and advanced infrastructure. In 2024, Prysmian began sourcing copper with 30% recycled content, reducing the need for virgin material and cutting associated emissions. By working with suppliers whose production processes have an average carbon footprint 35% lower than the global industry benchmark, Prysmian is ensuring that every metre of copper delivers both conductivity and sustainability. This approach preserves finite resources and reduces embodied carbon while maintaining the exceptional electrical properties that mission-critical projects demand. ALUMINIUM REIMAGINED Aluminium offers excellent conductivity- to-weight ratios, yet its traditional production is energy intensive. Prysmian has tackled this challenge by sourcing 100% low-carbon aluminium in its UK supply chain, produced exclusively with renewable energy from hydro, wind and
