Mercedes-Benz is famous for making premium, luxury vehicles, and this DNA of quality and refinement is carried over into its range of commercial vehicles as well. The new Mercedes Vito van is the prime example of this in action. It’s packed with practicality and carrying capacity, but also loaded with luxury. Now in its third generation, the new Vito comes in three different versions. There’s the load-carrying Vito panel van that has a Payload up to 1,354kg and a load volume up to 6.6m3. The Vito Mixto is a van and crew-carrier all in one, with space for up to six people and a load volume up to 4.1m3. Additionally, there is the Vito Tourer, designed to carry up to nine passengers. The Vito panel van is the most popular, and it comes in three trim levels, Base, Pro and Select. It also comes in three length options: Compact 4,895mm, Long 5,140mm and Extra Long 5,370mm. It has a load compartment length up to 3.06m, a load compartment capacity up to 6.6m3, plus a payload up to 1,354kg. All Vitos are powered by a 2L, four- cylinder diesel engine in four output
levels: CDI (136hp), 116 CDI (163hp) and 119 CDI (190hp). Furthermore, customers can choose from a six-speed manual or 9G-Tronic automatic gearbox options. Or there is the fully-electric version, the eVito, which comes with a 60kWh battery and motor with an output of 85kW (116bhp) and a range up to 320km (200 miles). The most powerful 190bhp diesel engine variant produces 440Nm of torque, providing ample power throughout the rev range. Plus, it has a towing capacity of 2,500kg when using a braked trailer. It’s also economical with Mercedes quoting a combined 48mpg, but a more realistic average is 40mpg, especially if you are carrying cargo. As well as being a very capable load- lugger, the new Vito comes fully loaded with the same tech you find in the Mercedes car and SUV range, like the brilliant MBUX infotainment system. It’s very user-friendly and features intelligent voice activation to control functions like navigation, climate, music and phone. To use it, you simply say, ‘Hey Mercedes’,
followed by your command, like ‘I’m feeling cold’, ‘Adjust the heating’ or ‘Navigate to the nearest filling station’. It’s all centred around a large, dash- mounted 10.25-inch touchscreen, plus a 5.5in colour display for the driver and new touch-pad steering wheel menu controls. There’s plenty of storage space, with three areas on top of the dash and large door bins, but there are no stowage compartments overhead. The seats are super-comfy, perfect for spending long hours behind the wheel, plus they’re heated and fully adjustable with leg support. The driver’s seat also has six-way adjustability with lumbar support. The Vito comes with a comprehensive safety package that includes Blind Spot Assist, Active Lane Keeping Assist, Active Brake Assist, Attention Assist, Crosswind Assist, and Hill-start Assist, all as standard. Ther Mercedes Vito starts from €35,106 in the Republic of Ireland or £32,850 ex-VAT in the UK. www.mercedes-benz.ie/ www.mercedes-benz.co.uk
