I t’s National Apprenticeship Week and as an apprentice myself, it’s a week that’s very important to me, which has been significant in my payroll career so far. I previously studied the Level 3 Payroll Apprenticeship with East Midlands Shared Services (EMSS). Apprenticeships are an amazing route to take as you’re learning the technical side of payroll while also gaining experience from colleagues in the workplace, so you can put your knowledge into practice. How did you find out about the apprenticeship? I found out about the Level 3 Payroll Apprenticeship through my payroll peers in the industry, from my employer and on Linkedin. I was one of the first people to embark on the Level 3 apprenticeship, but since I’ve completed it, there’s much more information out there about payroll apprenticeships, and how they’re a fantastic path to take for people new to the industry, but also for people who’ve been working in payroll for a while and would like to take the qualification. The apprenticeships are for anyone. How did you get involved? My employer contacted EMSS to gather more information about: l the apprenticeship
l the content l the duration l the course, more generally.
It was a very easy process and EMSS were extremely helpful. Once everything had been set up with my employer, I completed forms provided by EMSS regarding my needs as an apprentice. Then it was straight into lessons and learning. Starting the apprenticeship was seamless and I felt very supported by both Nick Phillips (my teacher) and EMSS more widely.
