Our Students Make an Impact

Currently, 66% of Gratz Holocaust and Genocide Studies students are educators.

Students in our Holocaust and Genocide Studies program include middle school and high school teachers, librarians, military and college instructors, and museum educators. We also have students who wish to deepen their knowledge to speak in the community, such as descendants of survivors, clergy mem- bers, and others from a variety of professions. Students and alumni represent 43 states and the District of Columbia as well as 13 countries outside of the U.S.

Heidi Omlor, Ph.D. ‘21

Heidi Omlor played a crucial role in advancing Holocaust education in Maine. Her class of high school students worked with state leaders to sponsor new legislation requiring Holocaust education. About the signed bill, Omlor states, “This will add Holocaust and genocide history to the learning results, requiring all Maine teachers to cover these topics. My students and I are very excited!”

43 states / 13 countries

“I have to travel a lot for work ... and sometimes I’m overseas and might not have WIFI. There’s never been a problem. They understand at Gratz that we’re working professionals and some of us are parents. They make it work for you.”

“I can’t say enough about how nurturing Gratz professors are. In many ways, these folks believe in us before we fully believe in ourselves.”
