PROPER SKINCARE ROUTINE

STEP 1

Cleanser | AM/PM

1.

Cleansers are arguably one of, if not the, most important step in skincare. In order for all the other product’s ingredients to absorb into your skin properly, washing o the debris from the day is a must! The same goes for applying skincare in the morning! If applying a full face of makeup is part of your morning routine starting with a fresh canvas is the only option for everything to sit properly.

1. Serums are super-concentrated, nutrient-dense treatments that target specific concerns such as repairing your skin’s protective barrier. Makari serums are great for hydrating skin as well easing inflammation due to the organic ingredients. Serum | AM/PM STEP 2

Spot Treatment | AM/PM STEP 3

1. Toners are used to balance out your skin’s pH and can be used twice a day as long as your skin can handle it. If your skin becomes dry, red or itchy, reduce use of the toner.

Moisturizer | AM/PM STEP 4

1. There’s this common misconception that you only need to moisturize once a day and an even more inaccurate one that if you have oily, acne prone skin you should skip this step altogether. We’re going to debunk that misconception right now. No matter your skin type, hydration is important. And it helps to lock in all the ingredients that you previously applied in your routine! Remember that. While you might have oily skin and don’t want to make it worse, that doesn’t mean that there isn’t an option for you! Try a water-based moisturizer that won’t add to what you’re trying to reduce. There’s a formula for everyone! In the morning, opt for a lighter weight formula, ideally one with SPF as it’s two steps in one. And for the nighttime, try a formula packed full with ingredients that your body naturally produces and can use more of as it starts to replenish your skin overnight. 2.

1. The bare minimum of sunscreen that you should be using SPF-wise is 30. Sunscreen is another key component that should be used no matter the weather. That’s right. Even if it’s snowing the sun’s powerful rays will still find you, no matter how chilly it is outside. The sun’s rays can lead to hyperpigmentation, skin cancer, and more, all which should be avoided. Sunscreen | AM STEP 5

WHAT WE’RE LOVING

House of Gucci

When Patrizia Reggiani, an outsider from humble beginnings, marries into the Gucci family, her unbridled ambition begins to unravel the family legacy and triggers a reckless spiral of betrayal, decadence, revenge -- and ultimately murder. We are obsessed with Lady Gaga in this role. Fun Fact she spoke with a heavy Italian accent for 6 months of filming not even breaking it when the cameras were not rolling.

PRODUCT

FOOD

Nest Birchwood Pine Candle

Keep your home feeling warm and cozy with Nest’s winter scented candles. The scent of the Birchwood Pine candle will transport you to a cabin surrounded by snow covered evergreens with a fire crackling in the background. With hints of white pine, fir balsam, and birchwood over a base of rich musk and amber, if that doesn’t say winter what does?

Fondue

The festive is upon us and as it gets colder, we’re loving fondue! Prefect for holiday gatherings, fondue is a delicious melting pot of melted cheeses combined with wine, cognac, or brandy. Everyone gathers around a ceramic pot that has a warmer. Just dip chunks of bread, meat, and/or veggies with long forks and Bon Appetit!

Interview with Industry Icon

With over 10 years’ experience working in Model Management, Samantha Granger is widely recognized as a key figure within the industry, scouting, shaping and nurturing many careers with a belief that beauty is confidence, no matter your size, shape, height or ethnicity. Her work as Senior Agent and Director has seen her work and grow many of the world’s top agency boards such as WILHELMINA Model Management and ONE Management. She has been a champion of diversity within the industry, with a mission to diversify the industry so that every single person can see themselves represented and to have relatable people visible to us. Samantha has since founded boutique agency CURV Management as a way to utilize this wealth of experience in the best possible way. CURV’s Managements personal and tailored approach is integral to providing a supportive, nurturing environment where longevity is the focus and talent can thrive. This boutique approach also applies to clients and CURV Management believes that the individual relationships built with those in the global media industry should also be nurtured and maintained.

CURV is all about diversity and inclusivity. Breaking down barriers and parting ways with the old status quo.

I started modeling at the age of 16. WHEN DID YOU START MODELING?

WHAT WAS YOUR FAVORITE PART OF MODELING?

Traveling was 1 of the greatest experiences, going to dierent cities and getting to work with icons in our industry was amazing. WHAT MADE YOU DECIDE TO WORK ON THE OTHER SIDE OF MODELING AS A CASTING DIRECTOR? After years as a model, I decided to start scouting, it happened organically. I could develop young models as a way to guide and protect them from some of the model industry pitfalls and place them with top agencies worldwide.

YOU’VE WORKED AT SEVERAL MAJOR AGENCIES – WHEN DID YOU KNOW IT WAS TIME TO START YOUR OWN?

After over 10 years of working at top agencies, I founded CURV Management as a way to utilize this wealth of experience in the best possible way. My management style is personal - a tailored approach is integral to providing a supportive, nurturing environment where longevity is the focus and talent can thrive.

6

I’m hoping to see continued diversity to encourage a strong voice in our models and for them to showcase the unique point of view. I believe that beauty is confidence, no matter your size, shape, height, or ethnicity. WHAT CAN WE EXPECT TO SEE FROM YOUR AGENCY IN THE FUTURE? Recently I’ve noticed with the skin care campaigns casting and clients are requesting more diversity of all ages, sizes, and ethnicity. I am so very excited to see that. CAN YOU TELL US MORE ABOUT BOOKING MODELS FOR SKINCARE CAMPAIGNS? Yes, I’ve certainly seen clients looking for models with imperfections. I am very happy that women are being represented on a more level playing ground. ARE YOU SEEING MORE CAMPAIGNS LOOKING FOR MODELS WITH SKIN IMPERFECTIONS?

I think the industry has come a long way and certainly there was a time where retouching was out of control, but recently clients in the beauty industry have become less focused on retouching and more on representing models with all skin types. WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS ON THE BEAUTY INDUSTRY BEING HONEST ABOUT RETOUCHING IMAGES FOR BEAUTY CAMPAIGNS?

WHAT WAS YOUR SKINCARE ROUTINE AS A MODEL?

I miss my routine of very simple and natural products. I also loved fragrance free products. I would wash, tone and moisturize evening morning and evening religiously. I drank lots of water!

I continue to drink lots of water, and I am still using natural products without fragrances, but as I’m getting older I’ve begun to notice that my skin needs a little more so I have added a few more products. HOW HAS IT CHANGED SINCE?

Famine is typically the result of conflict, war and isolated weather events but Southern Madagascar is on the brink of facing the world’s first ‘climate change famine’. For a country that has only used .01% of the world’s annual carbon emission in the last 8 decades due to not having electricity or cars, Madagascar is facing the very worst eects of climate change. David Muir was one of very few permitted to travel to Southern Madagascar, where he witnessed the devasting eects of climate change firsthand. Although Madagascar is prone to drought, this is the worst it has faced in 4 decades. The climate has changed so drastically in the past 4 years leaving rivers completely dried up and food resources depleted. Muir stood in a river that was once up to his waist but had become nothing but a few minimal pockets of water over the course of a year. People traveled for hours to reach these few drops of water to take care of their families, some traveling 3 hours or even more. The food insecurity has been rated the highest internationally at level 5, with over 30,000 people currently suering. Crops are rare due to the land becoming excessively dry, leading to crop failure. There is concern that the number suering from this drought will take a sharp increase as the country enters the traditional ‘lean season’ before harvest. The people of Madagascar have nothing to eat, resoriting to meals of locust and cactus, surviving on basically nothing. Food prices have surged rapidly and the few with crops have resorted to sleeping in their fields to protect them, which has become too dangerous. The World Food Program is looking for donations of all quantities to help the people of Southern Madagascar survive this catastrophic crisis. For more information on how to donate and what you can do to decrease your carbon footprint, click here .

Last month, Makari’s COO Ezra traveled to Cannes in the South of France to exhibit Makari products and grow global connections at the Tax Free World Association 2021 Duty Free Show.

SKINCARE ROUTINES FOR THE AGES As we age so does our skin. And as it changes, so should our skincare routines. There are certain steps that should be followed regardless of your age but as time catches up to us we have to add in a few more steps.

Let’s Start with Your Basics: No matter the season, your age nor your skin type, these are three most basic steps that you should follow to properly care for your skin!

No matter your age, sun protection should be a key part of your routine. The sun’s rays are harmful no matter the season and can leave a lasting impression on your skin and the less you protect it prior, the harder it is to reverse the damage. SUN PROTECTION

Cleansing your skin is a must. When you think skincare the first thing that typically comes to mind is facewash, right? Well, whether you wear makeup or not, cleansing your skin is of utmost importance. With so much debris in the air, especially in cities, our pores get clogged and without taking proper care, acne and other irritations can surface. CLEANSE

As DJ Khaled once said ‘hydration is the key to success’, and he wasn’t wrong! Personally, I can’t think of a single reason why someone would want dry skin. No thanks. Sure, us humans are made up of 70% water but nevertheless we need more! Soft, supple, and plump skin is not so hard to get if you moisturize enough. MOISTURIZE

Skincare Focuses by Age: 20’s

Exfoliating is the process of removing dead skin cells and promoting cell regeneration/turnover. The process leaves your skin silky smooth, but you should only do it 2-3 times a week and make sure to be gentle on your skin. The harsher you exfoliate the more your skin is prone to cracking and irritation. Keep this in mind for the colder months as well because while it’s important to stay extra moisturized, exfoliating too harshly can break your skin’s protective barrier. EXFOLIATE:

RETINOIDS:

your 20’s are the perfect time to start introducing retinoids into your skincare as they increase collagen levels which has many key benefits. From plumping up your skin to create a nice firm barrier creating an even skin tone by lightening pigmentation irregularities, retinoids are a game changer! Since they can be harsh, start with over-the-counter retinol products using them 2-3 nights a week. Gradually begin increasing your nightly use and if it irritates your skin, try mixing it with your moisturizer.

30’s

As we age, the first places that start to show this natural change are the eyes, mouth, and neck. Spend more time on those areas by always using cleansers, toners, serums, and moisturizers on your neck to keep the skin nice and firm. Lines and bags might begin to show around your eyes and mouth but there’s nothing wrong with adding an eye cream or special serum to help fight the clock! FOCUS ON THE EYES, MOUTH, AND NECK MORE:

40’s

peptides are another great way to boost collagen production as they make up the proteins that are the foundation of your skin. To get more specific and science-based, these chains of amino acids act as messengers, telling your skin cells to perform certain functions such as produce more collagen or create more of what your skin is lacking in general.
