SKINCARE ROUTINES FOR THE AGES As we age so does our skin. And as it changes, so should our skincare routines. There are certain steps that should be followed regardless of your age but as time catches up to us we have to add in a few more steps.

Let’s Start with Your Basics: No matter the season, your age nor your skin type, these are three most basic steps that you should follow to properly care for your skin!

No matter your age, sun protection should be a key part of your routine. The sun’s rays are harmful no matter the season and can leave a lasting impression on your skin and the less you protect it prior, the harder it is to reverse the damage. SUN PROTECTION

Cleansing your skin is a must. When you think skincare the first thing that typically comes to mind is facewash, right? Well, whether you wear makeup or not, cleansing your skin is of utmost importance. With so much debris in the air, especially in cities, our pores get clogged and without taking proper care, acne and other irritations can surface. CLEANSE

As DJ Khaled once said ‘hydration is the key to success’, and he wasn’t wrong! Personally, I can’t think of a single reason why someone would want dry skin. No thanks. Sure, us humans are made up of 70% water but nevertheless we need more! Soft, supple, and plump skin is not so hard to get if you moisturize enough. MOISTURIZE

Skincare Focuses by Age: 20’s

Exfoliating is the process of removing dead skin cells and promoting cell regeneration/turnover. The process leaves your skin silky smooth, but you should only do it 2-3 times a week and make sure to be gentle on your skin. The harsher you exfoliate the more your skin is prone to cracking and irritation. Keep this in mind for the colder months as well because while it’s important to stay extra moisturized, exfoliating too harshly can break your skin’s protective barrier. EXFOLIATE:

RETINOIDS:

your 20’s are the perfect time to start introducing retinoids into your skincare as they increase collagen levels which has many key benefits. From plumping up your skin to create a nice firm barrier creating an even skin tone by lightening pigmentation irregularities, retinoids are a game changer! Since they can be harsh, start with over-the-counter retinol products using them 2-3 nights a week. Gradually begin increasing your nightly use and if it irritates your skin, try mixing it with your moisturizer.
