"CLAD TIDINGS

The W o rk and the W o rk ers By William W. Orr, D.D.

OF GREAT JOY!"

Graham in Hollywood The final report on the Billy Graham Hollywood Bowl meetings showed a total attendance of approximately 160,000 or an average nightly attendance of more than 7,500. Many outstanding personali ties in the entertainment world listened to the Gospel. There were approximately 100 decisions for Christ nightly. The cli max of the meeting was the premier showing of Graham’s new film, “ Mr. Texas” with an estimated 25,000 persons crowded in and around the Hollywood Bowl. Kentucky Mountain Work A fertile field for old-fashioned evan gelism exists in the Kentucky Mountain area. Heavy emphasis is l^id upon school visitation. Rev. George Pox, as an ex ample, pastors three churches, spends the week time visiting public schools and during summer conducts an extensive summer camp program. He and his wife were assisted in this summer work by Rev. and Mrs. William Lewis. Mr. Lewis is pursuing study in Southern California preparatory to a return to the Kentucky Mountain area. New Bible Society Film Now being distributed by the Ameri can Bible Society, a new 20-minute sound picture is entitled, “ The Whole Armor.” The central character is the Society’s Service New Testament and the picture shows how it is produced and distributed to chaplains and individuals. Since 1820 the Society has supplied more than 33,- 000,000 Scripture volumes to the United States Armed Forces. Pen Pals Wanted A request from Ken Swanson, Osaka Youth for Christ, reports that as a re sult of a small newspaper advertisement he has over 300 names of Japanese boys and girls who would like to correspond with American pen pals. The plan is that the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ might be brought to these young Japa nese through friendly correspondence. Any interested are urged to send name, address and age to Rev. Ken Swanson, P.O. Box 74, Osaka, Japan. New Mormon Missionaries According to information from the Utah Christian Mission, Inc., the Mor mon church has just issued a call for another 1,000 new missionaries. It will be remembered that one of the tenets of the Mormon church is that everyone, upon reaching maturity, should plan to spend two years in missionary work. God with us. He was in the form of God yet He took a servant’s place. He pos sessed all things yet had nothing. Born King of the Jews yet He in a manger was laid. He was the Architect of all things yet He worked as a carpenter. He was a Prophet mighty in word and deed yet without honor. He was Heir of all things yet He possessed nothing. The Giver of Divine Law yet He was condemned contrary to it. He was the Resurrection and the Life yet He tasted death for every man. He was God in carnate in human flesh yet set at nought. He did all things well yet He was called the Prince of demons. He did always those things that pleased the Father yet He was despised and re jected of men. He had all authority yet He was subject to His parents. He had the Holy Spirit without measure yet was judged as unlearned. He could have called on twelve legions of angels yet He submitted to arrest without warrant. He had all power yet He was crucified in weakness. He could wipe away all tears yet He wept over Jerusalem. He was the Good Shepherd yet He died as the Lamb of God. He was poor on earth yet He made many rich. He was called the Bread of Life yet He was hungry. He was the Water of Life yet He cried, “ I thirst.” He possessed ivory palaces yet He had not where to lay His head. He was King of kings and Lord of lords yet He paid taxes. He was the Judge of the universe yet He allowed Pilate to judge Him. He was the faithful and true witness yet false witnesses rose up against Him. He was the friend that sticketh closer than a brother yet He was betrayed by Judas Iscariot. He was intrinsically holy yet He associated with publicans and sinners. He was just in all His ways yet He died for the unjust. He was the image of God yet made Himself of no reputation. He was filled with Divine love yet hated without a cause. He was holy, undefiled and sep arate from sinners yet He submitted to John’s baptism. He was a righteous Man yet He died a criminal’s death. He kept the whole law of God yet died under the curse of it. Hail to the Seed of the woman! Hail to the Son of Abraham! Hail to David’s greater Son! Hail to the King of Israel! Hail to “ the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world” ! “ Blessing, and honour, and glory, and power, be unto Him that sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb for ever and ever.” Thanks be to God for this unspeakable gift. “I came forth from the Father, and am come into the world: again, I leave the world, and go to the Father" (John 16:28).

N O day in our calendar is so glo rious and filled with such unspeak able joy as the advent of our Saviour- King. When the fulness of time was come in the eternal purpose of God, the Son left His Father’s throne to become incarnate as Son of Man and Son of God. Sitting at the Father’s right hand, dwelling in light unapproachable He was the everlasting delight of God the Father and God the Holy Spirit. Cheru bim and seraphim with the holy angels worshiped the majesty of His person. All this indescribable glory must now be left for the great mission of man’s redemption. Out of the inaccessible rays of the Shekinah glory; out of the everlasting fellowship of the Triune God; out of the invisibility of Godhead glory; out of the unapproachable holiness; out of the unsullied righteousness; out of the divine companionship; out of the un begun relationship; out of the inacces sible beauty; out of the inconceivable love and out of the Father’s bosom came Jesus our Redeemer. “ Out of the ivory palaces Into a world of woe, Only His great eternal love Made my Saviour go.” Son of God and Son of Man, the ever lasting God—a Babe in Bethlehem, Je hovah God—Jesus Saviour, Emmanuel—
