Cows and Modern Art at Storm King Arts Center By Carolyn Herman-Loh
Driving down a dirt road, there are iron arts 40 feet tall Like the skeletons of transformers they are all dangerous angularity and power
And yet
They are surrounded by museum ropes to keep back the danger of sunscreen-stained handprints
Even iron giants need to be protected
Even iron giants need to be protected, for, as MLK said, still, there are those who have been misguided.
Museum guides point out mirrors shaped like fallen planet-pieces littering a hillside, reflecting the roiling skies as heat domes and snowmageddons race around the earth.
But the skies seem calm compared to the roiling beneath them. Can you reflect the roils without taking damage yourself?
The blue skies are getting harder to see amidst the storms.
For Still there are those who have been misguided
A sculpture of a woman in bronze lies under an equally bronze bamboo mat, with delicate slingbacks falling off as nails pop pink against the stoic background.
Delicate and bronze are not natural allies, but neither are anger and hope, And yet that is always what the heroes of change are telling us to combine.
