Tennis: Junior Team Match Prep Green/Yellow Ball • AGES 8-14
Tennis: Summer Slam All-City Junior Tourney • AGES 7-16 Make plans now to compete in the annual city-wide tennis tournament. Matches are scheduled to start in the late afternoon on Friday, July 21 (with Friday, July 28 being reserved as a rain makeup day). To continue to encourage participation in this match-play style format, this year’s tournament is a round robin format. Depending on player registration, players play multiple matches against multiple opponents over a 2-3 hour period, with a modified scoring format (example an 8 game pro-set of 2 out of 3 short sets). Players must provide one new/unopened can of yellow championship tennis balls and be available during the full tournament timeframe. Registration deadline is Thursday, July 13. If class is canceled due to weather, a makeup will be held on Friday of the same week. The Park District is excited to launch Intra-District Team Tennis! This is for Green Ball level through Yellow Ball 14u players who can serve, rally, keep score, and have developed some of the mental toughness necessary for healthy competition. Players must be in a minimum of 2 classes per week, preferably the 85-minute match prep class. For weekday programs please register for the tennis site closest to your current school. Teams will be based in such a way as to have young players meeting and training with potential future high school teammates. Additionally, coaches will be assigned by the same area so that, for example, a future NNHS Husky will be coached by a current NNHS tennis team player. Players in Junior Team must also register for the Friday matches that are tied to their team’s home site. Matches will be both home and away. For players who wish to train on weekends, there are Team Match Prep classes offered both Saturday and Sunday, however these drills are not specific to sites. Part of each Match Prep class will include supervised match play with real-time tactical coaching and player self-reflection. Players will also be expected to participate in conditioning along with skill building drills and specific situation point play games.
