RELEASE THE PRESSURE!
WHY WE ALL NEED TO TAKE TIME TO RECHARGE
When life gets busy, we can begin to neglect the small acts we do every day that allow us to keep our mental health in check.
Life can get busy, and sometimes with that business comes an overwhelming feeling that clouds our minds and weighs us down. I know that personally, I only have so much emotional and mental RAM. I don’t perform my best at work when the storage space overflows, and my mood suffers. When this emotional and mental storage starts to feel like it’s running out, I try to clear some of it by talking with my wife or mentor. I meet with my mentor for about an hour every so often, and we talk about business, life, or how I’m currently feeling. For me, these conversations are a gift. They release some of the pressure and allow me to refocus on the most essential things in my life rather than getting bogged down in what can feel like never-ending tasks. Because sometimes when life gets busy, we can begin to neglect the small acts we do every day that allow us to keep our mental health in check. If you’ve been reading my newsletters, you know taking a mental inventory of where I’m at is something I try to do every day. I noticed that when work and life get busy, I don’t pray as often as I’d like, and I don’t move my body as much, either. Usually, I like to ride a stationary bike in the mornings before work, but I haven’t been doing that since I’ve been waking up earlier to get a head start on my day. I realized that these small actions of praying, physical activity, and taking some time to recharge act as an insurance policy for my
mental health. And when I skip them for the sake of time or energy, I end up feeling more overwhelmed in the long run. I think in business, there is a mentality that you can just push through these feelings. But I’ve found in my experience that in vulnerability, there is power, especially as a creative person. When I reach out to God, my wife, and my mentor for help in these moments or take time for those “insurance policy” activities, the relief I receive afterward allows me to serve my clients better. And for some people, being honest about their feelings is challenging, but it’s the first step toward lightening that overwhelming load that might be pressing down on you. Talking with others also helps you stay accountable for your growth. By being open and saying, “This is where I’m at mentally, and I need to do better,” you open so many doors to improve yourself and, by extension, your work. In my case, the time I dedicate to landscaping designs always feels more productive when I’m in a great mood. My attention is more focused on the task, and I have far more creative energy than when I’m worried about something or feeling overwhelmed. In my experience, there is always a price to pay when you push yourself too hard. And sometimes, you don’t necessarily pay that price at work but at home with your family, because
just like your job, they deserve the best out of you too. It’s unfair to them if the day leaves you zoned out and inattentive. So this month, as Mental Health Awareness Month, share how you feel with someone you trust. Talk about where you’re at mentally and what you need to do to improve your headspace. Maybe it’s taking some time to decompress by watching a movie or going out for a game of golf. Or perhaps it’s by asking God to direct your thoughts and actions toward something more positive. Whatever you choose, taking a moment to ease off the gas and recharge will ultimately allow you to be more attentive to your job, relationships, and the world around you!

RAIN, RAIN, DRAIN AWAY!
ON THE UP AND UP! JUMPIN’ JULIET but my ears started hurting too. That’s when my parents took me to the doctor, and it turns out I had a double ear infection. The doctor gave me some medicine to help me get better, and after just a few days, I felt ready to explore again. But it’s probably best that I take it slow. My first post-sickness adventure was just the other day during a walk around our cul-de-sac. I wore my favorite green slide-on shoes and hopped on my favorite ride: my pedal car (which I named Pedals). Together, we’re an unstoppable team. As I drive Pedals around, I like to bring my play cellphone with me to let all my friends know what I’m up to. On our walk the other day, the sickness must have gotten to my brain because I actually forgot my phone at home. I made due by using my hand to dial my friends up, which still did the trick. Even though I left my phone at home, the walk was SO fun. I felt much better when we made it home; I just needed some fresh air. I’m happy to report that I’m doing much better, and I won’t let these last few sniffles get me down. Once I’m good as new, Pedals and I will be off on our next adventure! You know what they say, “April showers bring May flowers,” but for those of us in Florida, we also know the April showers are just the beginning. Currently, our state is No. 1 for the most rainfall, with an annual precipitation average of 53.7 inches — that’s almost 4.5 feet! On average, we see roughly 7 inches of rain a month. This is why BLG Environmental Services always includes detailed drainage and diversion plans, especially during the underground phase of building. When it comes to rainwater, it should always clear away from your house in 30–60 minutes. If that doesn’t happen, water instead pools around your home due to poor drainage, ruining your home’s foundation and resulting in severe water damage and costly repairs. And the thing is that water flow after a storm depends heavily on where you live and the design of your yard. That’s why we use one of these three main strategies to redirect water in our landscape designs. Strategy No. 1: Installing a French Drain A French drain is a tool that collects water from the soil near the foundation of someone’s home and moves it to a separate space for disposal. Usually, a French drain system consists of a pipe set under both gravel and a few inches of soil.
How Our Designs Account for Water Diversion
HI EVERYONE! It’s me, Juliet, and as I write this, I can’t stop sniffling — I’ve been sick all week. I started not feeling too good, and my body got real hot. My mom and dad took my temperature and said it was 105! So, all these days I felt sick, I mostly stayed inside in my PJs to rest and get better. I took some medicine my parents gave me,

OUR CLIENTS SAY IT BEST!
Strategy No. 2: Having Gutters and Downspouts When rainfall runs down a roof, it naturally follows the walls and settles near the home’s foundation. Instead, gutters catch the water from the roof and route it to your downspouts, leading the water to a safe place to drain. Strategy No. 3: Creating a Swale on the Property The last drainage and diversion strategy is to dig a swale on the property to direct water away from the foundation. Essentially, a swale is a dip in the landscape where water can run naturally with gravity. We can use these three strategies independently or together to create the ideal drainage and diversion system for a home. Wanted to share how happy we were with the service and quality of the landscaping and lighting that was installed in our home by BLG. Robert worked with us to create a design and helped us stay within our budget by providing different options before work was initiated. His crew worked quickly as Dan and his team followed through and addressed all questions we had along the way. Robert created an innovative approach to our lighting that has greatly enhanced our curb appeal. Thanks to Robert, Dan and all of the BLG team for a job beautifully done! ” – Geoff Baldwin

If you’ve ever planned a vacation, you’ve probably picked a few key places to visit, like a museum, restaurant, or historic site. However, a new vacation trend is becoming increasingly popular: sleep tourism, where a traveler plans their entire vacation to get the best quality sleep during their time away. Before, common goals for vacations were to eat delicious foods, stay up late to see the sights, and fit in as much activity as possible. However, this left travelers completely exhausted. And as our culture continues to understand how important sleep is to our health, more people are prioritizing rest even while they’re away. But being a sleep tourist is about more than going to bed early and ensuring you get your recommended eight hours of rest. It’s about building your vacation around sleep. Some hotels even offer rooms tailored to sleep tourists, with amenities so popular that their sleep options have become regular offerings.
“Restorative Bed,” which adjusts to relieve pressure points and controls climate temperature throughout the night, according to each person’s needs. This suite also includes an array of soothing essential oils, a diffuser, and books about sleep. The Cadogan, a Belmond Hotel (London): This hotel offers a “sleep concierge,” which boasts prerecorded sleep meditations and a pillow selection menu for every type of sleeper. Sleepers can even benefit from the hotel’s weighted blankets, scented pillow mist service, and their proprietary sleep tea. Zedwell (London): The first ever “sleep-centric” hotel, Zedwell uses recycled materials to insulate every door, wall, and floor from sound. This hotel also purifies the air within the hotel and fills every space with ambient lighting.
So, if sleep tourism sounds like something you’d be interested in, here are three hotels that help you catch those z’s.
