Final Report: Implementation and Pilot Study

2. Measure classroom quality and fidelity of implementation. To fully understand how teachers deliver PKOMW we suggest conducting classroom observations in both PKOMW classrooms and comparison classrooms in the impact study. These observations would help evaluate how well teachers implement PKOMW as intended and identify differences or similarities in teaching practices between the two groups. These observations could help identify important differences in instructional quality, potentially influencing variations in school readiness measures between the two conditions. 3. School readiness assessments. Several assessments of school readiness detected differences between the PKOMW and comparison students. These included the EOWPVT-4, the PPVT-5, and Woodcock Johnson-IV Applied Problems subtest. Findings from this pilot indicate that these measures should be used in future studies. While the other measures did not detect differences, future studies should investigate the measures used with a larger sample and with more information regarding the components of the PKOMW curriculum that teachers used (e.g., vocabulary components, math components). The PKOMW pilot study has unearthed valuable insights that offer a roadmap for improving the impact of the curriculum. As the evaluation progresses to the last phase, the impact study, incorporating these recommendations will help set the conditions to better measure the impact of the PKOMW curriculum on student outcomes.
