ST. THOMAS USVI

October 2020 Re: Regulated Garbage - Marpol Class B refuse

Dear Captains,

Per U.S. Department of Agriculture regulation, all Marpol Class B food wastes put ashore in the U.S. Virgin Islands is considered Regulated Garbage and must be incinerated to ash. This includes not only food wastes, but also any other waste potentially contaminated with food wastes, such as cartons, crates or packaging. This regulation applies to all food wastes put shore from vessels who have visited a foreign port in the last 24 months, regardless of where the food wastes were actually provisioned. See attachment below for more details and definitions. Fortunately, Yacht Haven Grande has the ability to incinerate large amounts of Regulated Garbage on site. This service is provided dockside during normal business hours. However, the responsibility is on the yacht and crew to identify Regulated Garbage (Class B) to the dock hands so they can dispose of it properly. Please note that Yacht Haven Grande WILL NOT certify a record of removal of Class B refuse unless it has been identified for incineration by the yacht and then incinerated by YHG staff per government regulated procedure. There is an additional cost for refuse incineration due to fuel requirements. Please contact me directly if you have any questions or concerns about this policy.

Best Regards,

Phil Blake General Manager, Yacht Haven Grande Marina E: MarinaStaff@IGYMarinas.com 0: +1 (954) 960 3973 (Direct)
