H AWKESBURY
The town of Hawkesbury is again
trying to sell the Centre Christ-Roi, the
dilapidated Main Street structure the
municipality has been trying to dispose
of since 2006.
Town officials are preparing to issue
another request for proposals on the
former community centre and tenacres of
adjoining land located beside the Ottawa
River.
Over the last few months,
representatives of the town have been
speaking with a prospective new owner.
However, as with past talks, the latest
negotiations failed to produce a deal,
relates chief administrator Normand
Beaulieu. The property, which includes
ParcCyr-de-LaSalle, hadbeenconsidered
tobe akey component of future riverfront
development.
The townhasmade several attempts to
sell the site, which has been idle for the
past fiveyears. Themost recent offer came
in after the town had drastically reduced
its asking price in 2009.
