Most recent- ly, Esko has released a solution that hopes to utilize its technology to, according to the company, “estab- lish a reliable workflow and simple approval and quality control capabilities, as well as nutritional facts table templates for easy placement into packaging artwork, which will enable rapid development of compliant packaging.” New Designs The proposed changes to the Nutrition Facts labels will include a new design that incorporates in- creased font sizes for items such as ‘Calories’, ‘Serv- ings Per Container’, and ‘Serving Size’.‘Added Sugars’ will be added along with how many grams and the percent of Daily Value. Serving sizes, which have been confusing or misleading for many years, will also be changed. Updating Information “The new regulations require food and beverage manufacturers to update all of their packaging art- work for product sold in the United States, which is a complex challenge due to the sheer volume of work and the need to ensure the layout of the label is ex- actly as described by the FDA,” said Philippe Adam, Vice President of Global Marketing at Esko. “Our unique solution allows manufacturers to establish a methodology and clear process for dealing with this challenge in a very simple way, as well as preparing manufacturers with an established workflow for fu- ture regulatory compliance of their packaging.” Esko has introduced three methods that can be im- plemented depending on the needs of each converter. The first method begins with the Brand Owner. Converters can create Nutritional Facts Tables (NFTs) from scratch by entering data into centralized tem- plates allowing for review and approval before being placed into final artwork. System Integration The second method begins with the artwork. An Esko plug-in for Adobe Illustrator allows converters to use their current artwork and connect it with the workflow, which provides NFT templates. The plug- in automatically centralizes the data so after new artwork for the Nutrition Facts Tables is reviewed and approved, future updates can be made quickly and easily. The third method is full system integration. If a con- verter has nutritional information available in a struc- tured fashion within other external systems, the
