(AIA) , Pennsylvania Chapter has selected Spillman Farm- erArchitects (SFA) to receive the 2013 Architectural Firm Award. This was the inaugural year for the award, which hon- ors an architectural firm that has consistently demonstrated a commitment to design excel- lence and has made outstand- ing contributions to the profes- sion of architecture for a period of at least 10 years. Spillman Farmer also re- ceived a 2013 Citation of Merit

Award for the Lafayette Col- lege Arts Plaza in Easton, PA. “Winning the first AIAPenn- sylvania Firm Award is truly an honor. We feel privileged to practice architecture, a profes- sion that we love and which al- lows us to positively impact the lives of those who work, live, learn and play in the buildings we have designed since 1927,” said Daniel Harrigan, AIA , Spillman Farmer president and one of the firm’s six princi- pals. “Our collaborative design process involves extensive interactions with clients, con- sultants, our personnel, and the community. This award substantiates this intentional and strategic approach that results in lasting, impactful, and honest architecture.” “Spillman Farmer’s body of work represents an imagina- tive approach to difficult prob- lems, a curiosity about ma- terials, and a strong sense of purpose,” said Jules Dingle, AIA , awards chairman for the AIA Pennsylvania and princi- pal of DIGSAU. “The thought- ful presentation of their work conveyed a commitment to the value of architecture as a profession, an understand- ing of the challenges facing contemporary practice, a long history of design excellence, and a palpable ambition to achieve even greater success in the future.” Spillman Farmer’s -winning Arts Plaza, is a raw, open-air space for the arts at Lafayette College in Easton, PA. The structure transformed a for- mer auto-repair facility into a dynamic outdoor teaching space. Spillman Farmer ’s Firm Award and Citation of Merit Award follow the firm’s Silver Medal, awarded in 2012 for the ArtsQuest Center. n
