RAPA’s A Christmas Carol rehearsals well underway

hasn’t played for a long time and wants to take it up again. The Dickens’ story has captivated audiences since 1843, with its tragicomic characters and its biting indictment of Victorian society. Its appeal lies not in its morality, but in the transformation of its main character, Ebenezer Scrooge. His realization that life must be lived joyfully, and that the soul cannot thrive as a slave to work and money, rings as true today as it did a century and a half ago.

RUSSELL | The Russell Association for the Performing Arts is preparing for its upcoming production playing November 16to19,AChristmasCarol,andrehearsals for the traditional tale are progressing well. With over 30 cast members, a large crew and a full orchestra, it is one of RAPA’s ambitious shows. Rob Knight and Sam Van Dusen play Scrooge, old and young, Rod Giles plays Bob Cratchit with son Ian as Tiny Tim, Rory Dafoe plays Fred, Pamela Pearson plays Scrooge’s niece, Caitlin Johnson plays the beauty and Brian Fitzpatrick is Marley. The ghosts are played by Sean Addis, Joe McInnis and François Coallier. Directing is Bill McInnis and producing is Jane Brownrigg. These long time RAPA members have years of dramatic experience on both sides of the footlights. Tickets are available from RAPA members, at Pronto, Stella’s Touch Spa, and Foodland in Russell. The Russell Community Concert Band is playing the score. At rehearsal they sounded very tight and together. Gilles Lepage is conducting. The band formed in 2009 and this spring received Gold standing from Kiwanis Music Festival. They welcome anyone who plays an instrument or who
