OUR PEOPLE
Proactively Promoting a Diverse & Inclusive Workplace.
Ardmac continues to create and promote an increasingly diverse and inclusive workplace in an industry where Diversity, Equality, and Inclusion (DEI) have faced their fair share of challenges. We recognise that we are not where we would like to be just yet, but we are proud to be a leader in advancing inclusivity in our sector. We know that it is essential to match our ambitions with actions and have now adopted a formal approach to ensuring an inclusive and diverse workplace culture can thrive. To ensure our policies and procedures, the backbone of our organisational structure, authentically reflect our commitment to DEI, we have partnered with the Irish Centre for Diversity (ICD). Our efforts to enhance these were recognised through achieving Bronze accreditation from the ICD, a significant achievement for our business. In 2023, we built on this recognition and were honoured to achieve Silver accreditation—a milestone that underscores our dedication to embedding diversity into the core of our business. For us, this accreditation is more than a badge; it’s a symbol of our efforts to put our aspirations into practice, and it sends a strong message that DEI is essential to our people, and therefore, essential to our business.
Enhancing our Efforts As we continue to grow, Ardmac is acutely aware of the need to grow our DEI efforts at pace. To do this, we are prioritising our data collection and processing to gain deeper insights that will allow us to target even more impactful initiatives. We are now tracking the 28 nationalities that make up our diverse team and reporting our monthly gender balance ratio, which currently stands at 78% male to 22% female. Although this ratio isn’t yet where we want it to be, we are proud of the fact that it is ahead of the industry norm and we’re actively working to improve it through implementing more inclusive recruitment practices. Ardmac also believes in using our voice as a leader in the sector to proactively influence others. We do this through targeted DEI-focused initiatives including sponsorship of industry events like the Construction Industry Federation’s (CIF) International Women’s Day conference. We take great pride in supporting our people to flourish in an inclusive and respectful workplace. Ardmac’s ambition is to encourage others to join us in creating a more diverse and inclusive industry where all talent is actively sought out and celebrated.

Ardmac’s culture of empowerment, backed by strong leadership and adaptive processes, ensures we can consistently exceed both our internal and external expectations. Informed by our learning, our culture is continuously evolving. That’s why our robust processes are never static, rather they are continuously being refined, drawing on the lessons learned from each project we deliver. We believe this enables Ardmac to enhance our efficiency and effectiveness. Our leadership culture, rooted in support, communication, and trust, is equally reflective of this approach. For us, leadership isn’t just about overseeing progress, it’s about working together in a flat level, inclusive structure that ensures maximum project success. Ardmac’s shared purpose guides our leadership team in their proactive approach to providing the guidance and support our employees need, ensuring they feel valued and empowered.

ECE: Early Contractor Engagement
“With a positive culture at the core of a project - design, schedule, commercial and operations needs and targets can be met first. As a consequence the construction process can focus all efforts on its core elements such as safety, quality and production.”
Early contractor engagement leads to the best outcomes for our clients. By integrating service penetrations during the pre-construction phase, we ensure alignment between contractors and client requirements. A dedicated team of specialists and client representatives establishes a strong, integrated schedule and steering committee, laying the foundation for project success. When this core group engages early, it fosters a culture of safety and collaboration, driving optimal results. With a positive culture at the heart of the project, key elements—such as design, scheduling, commercial considerations, and operational targets—can be prioritised effectively. As a result, the construction phase can remain focused on its core pillars: safety, quality, and productivity

DfMA(D): Design for Manufacture and Assembly / Disassembly.
“By adopting Design for Manufacture and Assembly early, we deliver smarter, safer, and more efficient builds. Close collaboration allows us to reduce waste, minimise risk, and ensure consistent quality from design through to delivery.”
Adopting a Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DfMA) approach leads to improved efficiency, cost savings, and higher-quality outcomes for our clients. By integrating DfMA principles early in the design phase, we ensure that components are standardised, prefabricated, and optimised for seamless on-site assembly. A collaborative approach between designers, contractors, and client representatives is essential to maximising the benefits of DfMA. Early engagement allows the project team to streamline construction methods, reduce waste, and enhance safety by shifting complex work to controlled factory environments. With a well-planned DfMA strategy, design, scheduling, commercial, and operational goals can be achieved more effectively. This enables the construction phase to focus on its core priorities— safety, quality, and productivity—while reducing risks and improving overall project performance.

Client:
Confidential
Location:
Ireland
Project Size:
1450 sqm
Ardmac secured the Design-Build Turnkey Package for a QC Laboratory at a new API facility in Ireland, including the cleanroom envelope and a critical containment blast wall. The project featured a QC Laboratory, Filter Drier, Scrubber, Solution Preparation area, and a multi- level Process Ballroom. Ardmac led the design and construction, covering structural, architectural, mechanical, and electrical aspects. Jacobs Engineering oversaw the project, with Ardmac collaborating closely with specialist trade partners. Integrated Approach: Ardmac employed an integrated approach to ensure smooth execution, focusing on the early identification of secondary steel requirements to optimize construction and meet blast and fire ratings. The design also accounted for more than 250 service penetration points to accommodate both current and future facility needs. Blast Wall Solution: A critical aspect of the project was the blast wall. Ardmac designed and installed a multi-storey blast wall, 18 meters high and covering 1000sqm. This 50Kn/M2 blast wall met the client’s stringent safety requirements while allowing flexibility for future
process development. The design and independent certification of the wall highlighted Ardmac’s commitment to safety and quality. Coordination of Service Penetrations: Ardmac coordinated service penetrations across all areas of the project, ensuring that they were fully addressed before construction, particularly within the blast wall, which required careful planning and collaboration with trade partners. HVAC and Electrical Systems: Ardmac designed and installed the HVAC system for the QC Laboratory and its supporting rooms, integrating Air Handling Units (AHUs), extract systems, and a CAV/VAV system for safe operation. The electrical scope included the installation of distribution boards, lighting, and HVAC control systems. Cleanroom areas were equipped with specialised lighting, featuring Passive Infrared Sensors (PIRs) and a Central Battery Emergency Lighting System. Bespoke Door Interlock System: Ardmac developed a bespoke door interlock system, integrating it with Decontamination Misting Showers and Automated Door Closers. This system was tailored to the specific needs of the
facility and included a pneumatic door automation system for high-containment ATEX areas. Containment Safety: The facility was designed with high containment to safely handle OEB 5 materials. Ardmac installed lab furniture, fume hoods, chemical storage units, and Dagard walls, ceilings, and doors, ensuring minimal leakage. All penetration details were thoroughly reviewed to comply with VDI 2083 Part 19. Commissioning and Certification: Ardmac conducted rigorous commissioning and certification processes to meet the client’s safety standards, including independent containment testing under VDI 2083. Site Acceptance Tests (SATs) were developed to confirm compliance with user requirements and ensure the safe use of the facility’s systems. Conclusion: The API Project in Ireland showcases Ardmac’s dedication to safety, innovation, and excellence. Through a collaborative approach and adherence to global safety standards, the project was successfully completed, meeting the client’s requirements for OEB 5 product use and advancing pharmaceutical industry solutions.
