ACADEMIC PROGRESS REPORTS AND PARENT-TEACHER CONFERENCES PROGRESS REPORTS/REPORT CARDS o Commentary regarding student progress is written at the end of every trimester in the form of a report card. o Progress reports may be written at mid-trimester or at any time a concern arises regarding a student. CONFERENCES o Parent/Teacher conferences are scheduled at the end of the first two trimesters. o Childcare is provided by specialty teachers on the scheduled conference days: reservations must be made in advance. o Additionally, parents, teachers or administrators may schedule conferences any time a concern arises regarding a student. o Learning specialists, tutors, therapists or any other individual involved with the student may be asked to join a conference. o Middle School students are asked to attend the scheduled parent/teacher conferences. Middle School families will be conferencing with the student’s advisor. COMMUNITY SERVICE Based on the concept of Tikkun Olam, "repairing our world," students participate in acts of tzedakah and gemilut hasadim (social action). When one goes beyond the obligation of mitzvah, we not only help others, but we also benefit from the good feelings we get. Community service and the practice of mitzvot are woven into every curriculum, starting in Early Childhood. LOWER SCHOOL: TIKKUN OLAM Beck Lower School students do not have individual community service requirements and as a class will determine a project to fulfill the mitzvah of Tikkun Olam. Room parents will coordinate this project with the classroom/homeroom teachers. MIDDLE SCHOOL: TIKKUN OLAM Middle School students are required to perform a minimum of 10 hours of community service each year. Students must turn in a minimum of 5 completed hours at the end of the first trimester and another 5 at the completion of the second trimester. o Additional hours are recognized at the Middle School Awards Assembly. o Students choose their own service projects and, in the past, have collected food, books, toys,
bicycles, cell phones, diapers, blankets and clothes for those in need. o Students will complete a form to receive credit for their service hours.
