The Starrett Metrology Systems (SMS) Division of Starrett is on the leading edge of inspection technology, with a full catalog of solutions for virtually any inspection requirement. The SMS division catalog includes traditional Optical Comparators, Digital Comparators, and Vision based measurement inspection systems. Systems are available in horizontal and vertical orientation as well as bench-top and floor standing, depending on part size and stage travel requirements. Starrett Optical Comparators are time-tested solutions, second to none in terms of flexibility and customization. Multiple stage sizes and travels are available, as are multi- lens options and optical edge detection is available on all models. A wide range of readout options can be customized as well, depending on needs. Digital Comparators give users the best of both worlds by combining the same familiar format of an Optical Comparator with Vision system technology and optional CNC control. Video edge detection virtually eliminates subjectivity and DFX overlays eliminate the need to store and maintain mylar overlays. Vision systems combine powerful inspection software with optional touch probe capability. Optional CNC control allows for customized lighting and stage movement to be built as programmable steps, ensuring inspection consistency across users. All Starrett Vision systems and Digital Comparators feature pattern recognition, allowing for inspection automation, drastically reducing the amount of time and training required to run accurate inspection routines. All systems in the SMS lineup have a wide range of lens options as well as compatible accessories to further enhance the functionality of our systems.

SOLUTION OF THE MONTH: HVR100 FLIP
What it is : The HVR100 FLIP is a bench-top Vision system that can be configured to be in a vertical or horizontal orientation. Switching between the two orientations takes a matter of seconds. What it’s good for: The large field of view lens is ideal for quick checks of multiple part features on small parts; either in receiving or during in-process inspection. What makes it special: System can be strategically placed on shop floor and set to pattern recognition mode. Once in pattern recognition mode, simply placing any part that exists in the system within the field of view will automatically call up and run the inspection routine for that part. Why that’s important: With pattern recognition the inspection process itself becomes automated. System allows multiple users to run various parts or multiples of the same part with no down time. Faulty parts can be caught in real time, often before creating costly re-work or scrap.
