I am delighted to share the news that Waldegrave was placed 8th best comprehensive school in the UK in The Times Parent Power List published today. Furthermore, our DFE P8 score, which was our best ever, placed us in the top 3% of all schools nationally, a figure that includes selective schools. Well done everyone! We couldn’t be more proud of our tremendous students and staff who made these achievements possible! This week our German A level students enjoyed a trip to the BFI for a workshop on the award winning film, Goodbye Lenin, which explores the collapse of the Berlin Wall and the reunification of Germany. A group of Year 11 students have also attended Science Live in London, hearing from leading scientists including Professor Robert Winston and Dr Maggie Aderin-Pocock. In school we welcomed Professor Mark Blagrove to talk to sixth form students about his fascinating research into sleep and dreams. Don’t forget tomorrow is our annual PTA Christmas Tree and Preloved Uniform sale. Pre orders via ParentPay have ended but you are in luck if you missed it as the PTA will have extra trees available for purchase on the day. Come along if you would like a real tree for Christmas!

HEALTH AND WELLBEING

JOINING THE PTA To get in contact with our PTA about joining the team please click below.

It is the time of year when respiratory and other seasonal viruses can spread quickly and easily. If your child has diarrhoea and/or vomiting or high temperature and is unwell, they should not attend school or mix with others outside of school, until they no longer have a high temperature, diarrhoea and/or vomiting for 48 hrs and are well enough to go back to school and other social activities. Click here for our guide on reducing the spread of infections. The consultation period for our updated Relationships and Sex Education Policy is now underway and the draft Policy is available to view on our website. If you would like to participate in a parent focus group to discuss the Policy, please complete this Google form expressing your interest.

A MESSAGE FROM HEAD OF YEAR 7

Last Friday, a group of 10 students from our Eco Committee attended the annual School Eco Conference at Holy Cross School in New Malden. The day had a packed schedule of speakers, presenters, student activities and games. This was a chance for our students to learn about environmental issues in a fun and interactive way as well as being an opportunity to have their voices heard about their ideas for ways to mitigate further damage to the environment. Yesterday, our local STEM Ambassador came in to run a Sustainability workshop in some lucky year 7 science lessons. They learned about the effects of climate change and how we can all contribute to reducing our environmental impact. We are entering the festive month with a number of competitions lined up for our Year 7 students. The Lindt competition encourages our students to design a new product that we might see on the shelves amongst the other chocolate themed products made by the company. The Christmas Card competition encourages our students to unleash their artistic talents by designing a card and our Year 7 Bake Off final takes place next week, challenging students to showcase their skills in the kitchen. Congratulations to the following bakers who will be representing their form groups next week: Zaynab N, Summer W and Denise A (7EDA); Haizea M-P, Natasha G and Bella C (7EST); Sofia C, Hayley T and Kate H (7FLE); Libby H, Jessica F and Isobel A (7FFR); Eva E, Eliza P and Belle D (7SSH); Isabella N, Lisa B and Arin Y; Matilda D, Lucy L and Izzy G (7PIR); Ameera F-H, Corinne H and Eleanor P (7PUN). I wish everybody the best of luck and I am looking forward to seeing and tasting the cakes! Congratulations to the following form groups who are our top three in this week’s house point charts: In first place we have 7SSH, followed by 7PUN and then 7PIR take third spot. I would like to remind parents that while we appreciate the need for children to have mobile phones for their journey to and from school, the phones should not be used during the school day and should be turned off and placed in lockers. If contact is needed during the school day, please use the school telephone number and any messages will be passed on. Looking ahead, on Thursday 14 December, students will be given the option of wearing a christmas jumper over their uniform if they like. More details on this will be issued in due course.

Scarlet and Ivy Series - Sophie Cleverly

Set in an eerie boarding school, Ivy uncovers secrets behind her twin sister Scarlet’s disappearance until Miss Fox invites Ivy to take her sister’s place in Rookwood School.

You’ll love this if you enjoy mysteries and stories set in the past.

NOTICE FROM THE P.E. DEPARTMENT With the weather getting colder and wetter, the P.E. department would like to remind you that students should be wearing a different pair of trainers in their P.E. lessons to the black trainers they use as their school shoes. This is for health and safety reasons, as most fashion trainers do not have the correct support or grip for exercising and playing sport. Also, when taking part in activities on the field such as football or rugby, footwear can get very wet and muddy and this is also not comfortable or safe to be wearing for the rest of the school day. P.E. trainers can be any colour, but we just ask that they are proper sports trainers.
