Swansea University Postgraduate Prospectus 2021

Having an MSc in Social Work helped me to gain immediate employment, as well as the knowledge, skills and understanding necessary to move confidently into a diverse range of settings, from childcare to mental health. I feel very privileged to have had the opportunity to study and embark upon a new career in adult social services and enjoyed the whole course. I particularly enjoyed studying ethics and values. It helped me to articulate my own values, to justify my decisions and to question those of others with greater confidence. The course included an equal balance of class based study and placement learning opportunities, allowing me to develop a range of practical skills and the theoretical understanding needed to practice with confidence. There was a strong emphasis on reflective practice which enabled me to not only see how these elements fitted together, but also to consider how my personal values could impact upon my practice. Writing my dissertation was probably the most challenging experience, but also the most rewarding. It taught me the value of perseverance and open mindedness, as well as arousing an interest in undertaking further research in the future. I would definitely recommend Swansea University to other students. It is a friendly university with supportive staff.
